Title: Drove 220 miles for a grail today
Post by: charred on March 10, 2017, 07:09:36 PM
Left CT 6:45a. Had to clean up a little snow.

Raced a minor snow storm along the way,

(http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l255/vigbert/20170310_073859_zpsawf1mgso.jpg) (http://s98.photobucket.com/user/vigbert/media/20170310_073859_zpsawf1mgso.jpg.html)

finally got ahead of it in NH.

This was the first long trip in my '99 F150. It has 221K miles on it (just broken in). I was a little concerned, but at some point along the way the gauges looked like a mirror image of themselves. Took it as a good sign.

Crossed the Piscataqua River from NH to ME and pulled into a visitor center and ran into @captjoe06 Ahoy matey!

(http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l255/vigbert/20170310_095348_zpsroshps2j.jpg) (http://s98.photobucket.com/user/vigbert/media/20170310_095348_zpsroshps2j.jpg.html)

Arrived Scarborough destination 10:45. In my excitement I took no photos there.  ;D Met the wife of the seller. They are the original owners. She said they bought it in Chicago from Weber. Is that possible? Did/does Weber have a retail outlet?

Anyway, they took it with them when they moved to Florida, and from there to Maine. And I took it to its final destination. Woohoo.

On the way back, I pulled into a Lowes, just in case there was something good clearance priced.

There wasn't, but this was my first look at the Weber charcoal. Looked at the bag. Looked at the price tag. Bag. Tag. Bag....I left it there.

On the way back, made a minor detour in NH for this little guy:

(http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l255/vigbert/20170310_171034_zpsooeptrdm.jpg) (http://s98.photobucket.com/user/vigbert/media/20170310_171034_zpsooeptrdm.jpg.html)

(http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l255/vigbert/20170310_170838_zpsuwtfvxhw.jpg) (http://s98.photobucket.com/user/vigbert/media/20170310_170838_zpsuwtfvxhw.jpg.html)

It has an interesting charcoal grate. Origin unknown. The seller said the grill came with a cabin he used to own near Lake Winnipesaukee. He said he never used it there because he had an offset smoker. He sold the cabin and the smoker and kept the grill.

Finally, here's the grail. '96 (ER) REDHEAD SSP

The frame is solid. A little rust on the axle. Not sure if the gas works. Needs some ash sweeps and a cleaning. I'm psyched!

Some extras:

Very Nice.  I have a 1995 version of your Performer.  I'm actually thinking of selling mine because I never use it anymore.  Can I ask how much you payed for yours?

Cool story and nice finds. I had a 97' 150. It was my first truck. Loved it.

Congratulations!
I've driven around 200 miles for a redhead too, totally worth it.
Love that faded 18 as well

Charcoal grate on the little guy looks like a crop circle. That's not a grill...it's a communication device.

If I looked out my window and saw that amount of snow I would have had to pass on the grills. Awesome pickup. Respect!

Ha!

The choice was driving Fri through a little snow or Sunday, when the wind chill will be in the single digits all day, like it is today. Nah.

We're supposed to get some real snow Tues-Wed.  :'(
