Title: Singing the praises of the One-Touch Platinum
Post by: captjoe06 on February 23, 2017, 01:56:46 AM
I picked up this green one a little while back and it's become my go to at the house this winter.

I wasn't even really planning to get to it as far as a deep clean til spring but when we got several snowstorms back to back,  the only place around the house that was convenient to go from the kitchen to the grill was on the front walkway.

Similar to my love for Performers because of the functionality of the table attached OTPs are great that way.  But what's more is how light they are send easy to move around.     It's a perfect tailgating grill if you've got a pickup truck.   Anyway I'd just like to throw out there how much I dig mine and if anyone sees them on CL,  don't sleep on them.   They're pretty great.
My wife to be surprised me when I got home from work with this snowman at the helm.

Good to know capt. Tell that snowman to stand back when the chimney gets started.

Is there any model or vintage of kettle that isn't fantastic? I can't think of any

That's a good point of being light and portable but having the table as well. I hadn't thought about that.  Now I need one those too.

I have to agree, I just finished the restore of mine and am looking forward to using it this summer when we go camping.  My only initial thought is I wish it was as tall as my Performer.

In anyone with the OTP is interested in a cheap cover I found this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Weber-Premium-Charcoal-Grill-Cover-Fits-One-Touch-Platinum-Grills-22-5-New-/201531516311?hash=item2eec36e597:g:EcwAAOSwgQ9Vrwli

Cant beat a Weber cover for $14 bucks, I bought one and want to make sure its legit when it gets here and I will probably pick up another for a spare.

Nice topic for a thread, @captjoe06.  I'm currently modding my green 18"OTP to be my dedicated rotisserie station.  I've said it before, these OTP's have a lot of potential for mods.

Oh neat, @jcnaz.  What kind of paint did you use on the ash catcher and is it holding up?

I believe that one was the Rustoleum Hammered in dark grey.
It has held up nicely.

The member ramsfan post from another thread I found.
QuoteOne Touch Platinum kettles were made from 2000-2004 then discontinued. Then they were redesigned and reintroduced in 2010. The second generation models stood much taller: A whopping 35" inches tall! Also, the lid tilted back like a gasser. The only Weber charcoal grill with this design (except for the RK). The second generation OTP ran three model years from 2010-2012. These are very rare as they were only produced for three years and very few ever sold.

Here is my Gen2 Lime OTP.

Cooking on one of these is like being on the hot line at the Weber Grill restaurant in Chicago. Front handle, centered vent. Fire in the back, cooler up front. Check the food in an instant. Crack the lid for more air. Even the sounds of the lid being rolled back and forth are similar. For all we know, this was designed as the homeowner version of those stainless bad boys they use. Thanks to @mike.stavlund I have one of my own now, and it has a place on my own hot line.

Here is another video from the Weber restaurant.  I really need to get there soon, and find a seat right in this spot.

And @56MPG , after hearing you talk about the way they cook at the restaurant, I was wishing I had cooked on that OTPlatinum a couple times before I sold it!  Though I would be remiss to even risk a chance at a crack on that porcelain! Also since you already have a new cover for that grill it seems like destiny that it goes to you.  Enjoy!
