Title: Great job this weekend, WKC
Post by: Mr.CPHo on February 19, 2017, 05:39:51 PM
There were so many amazing scores this weekend, guys!  It was very cool to see all the awesome acquisitions and I wanted to say congrats to all the grillfellas that brought 'em home and into the WKC.  Keep up the good work with those RRR's!

I picked one up as well.  This 18" brownie was listed on CL for $55 and was about a 6 hour round trip to Tampa and back:

Although it lacks the ash pan, the rest of this brave is in good shape.  I haven't had much time to clean it, but here are a few pics.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/5a2a51cb2befaebd0aefd03c564cc1af.jpg)
I believe it's a '78, but check out this weird upside down "D" on the vent, anyone seen this before?!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/9baac59334c9f1dbe86ecf70f7d9ad18.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/0a4240e0dd3480c7de1443063ccbe57f.jpg)
Socializing(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/aecba49f969219d574c7f2bdcf52141d.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/d4d3db0e24bdac7c19895544abb798c0.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/75bab07b0c254625608311180d618128.jpg)If you look really close, it looks like the fade has a bit of a crazing pattern in it. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/bddc2b616d4ae058871203848685ae62.jpg)The lid handle is broken but usable, and the lid itself has a nice peel.  (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/a186dff0e56e62fcb1bb5b02e1b0d54a.jpg)
I'll post the finished product later, but wanted to share with y'all and say thanks again to everyone for posting their RRR's.

Nice score! There's been a couple of 1978s out there that have this "D" on the lid vent. Do the bowl vents have this D at all? Not sure if that was Webers code for "demo" at that time or not.

It's always great seeing these old kettles go from under appreciated to all shined up. Nice one!

I inspected the lower bowl vents and I don't see a "D" on any of them.  Maybe they'll appear once I get them cleaned really good.  Interesting hypothesis regarding "D" = "demo".  The seller said this brownie came down from Ohio when he retired, but no other additional information.

Those Brownies may be the mist underrated color of all.  I think they're cool as hell.  Nice pick up.  How many cups of coffee was the trip?  That would be a three coffee trip for me.

Hey, @captjoe06, I was just thinking this morning how I don't see any posts from you at 4am anymore.  Must be slacking .
This must've been the fourth time we've driven down to Tampa for a grill.  We usually stop for a cafe con leche (coffee with milk) in Gainesville which is about the half way point.  The wife loves road trips so it's not hard to convince her to jump in the truck to pick up another grill.  For us, the trip to get the grill is part of the experience.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/d9240f679d4babbe8edd96c52e34a443.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170220/d19aed8d3aa9a1d0dc0fa79b0a84db56.jpg)

It's the same for me. Love the peaceful ride and anticipation when going to pick up a new acquisition.  This is off season for lobsters so I'm not at the dock at 4AM.  Love this time of year. Mexico in a couple weeks, Naples Fl in April and May

This was listed on Craigslist in the New Port Richey area.  It had been posted for 12 minutes when I contacted the seller.  If I remember correctly, it was just listed as "charcoal grill", it didn't have "Weber" or "Webber" anywhere in the ad, so maybe your search criteria wouldn't have caught it.

Awesome find!
I really like the look of the 18mbh's
I also don't mind a little road trip to grab a kettle, find a nice bbq restaurant to stop at and make a day of it
Congratulations!
