I am.

Interesting idea! Maybe we need a thread called "Ideas for old Webers". :)
Ive heard about this project...interesting. Its a good use for the black kettle. Cutting up a colored one would be hard to stomach! :)
I like blacks. :-[
I have a few bowls.. And I would even use some old colred ones that are pretty beat up, painting them wouldn't be an issue..
what happened to brian?
I think he's out of town in Missouri.
I'm ready. I'll start with one and well go from there. And yes I am in Missouri. It's 102 here.
Is that the temp or the humidity! Lol..
I'm curious on the design.. I bet someone could make some low patio chairs out of a 22 bowl.. Wish I had a plasma cutter..
A couple of the bowls have weakened leg sockets from rust. I don't think they'll work as stools :(
I'll pick a few good ones to start with.
Your garage or mine?
Let's get one to Pete and I can experiment with it. I need to see how I can do it. It will take some thinking and trial and error. I'll start with one. Sound like a plan?
I think the old ones would make a cool table. Just picture this; The legs as a stand, storage inside, and a nice wood top. Just set it next to your favorite kettle. :)

that's a really good idea too.
Ooohh.. How abut as an ice chest?
pizza oven!
If you did an ice chest you would have to insulate it somehow. Otherwise it wouldn't have any thermal properties. Not saying it can't be done, just needs to be worked out. Just sayin..
How about building all of the things we mentioned, stools and all. Then take some pictures or a video of it all put together. You could even make an ottoman out of one and put yer feet up. :D
I bet you could make some speaker enclosures out of Smoley joes!
Hmmm, I may have to try that one myself.
I think the Jumbo would make the best ottoman
bump
Got an idea for the ice chest. Take a 22.5 bowl, sit a 18.5 in it, shim it up so it sits even at the top, and then fill the gap in between them with the expandable foam. Instant ice chest. You could even do the same thing with the lid so you had insulation on both parts.
I shall be watching this thread with great interest.
Another idea I had about the ice chest: You could flip a 22" lid into a 22" bowl, seal up the joint with some silicone caulk, then fill in the space with expanding foam shot in through the bottom vents. You'd need to make sure the lid vent was sealed up, though, so no ice water would run into the insulation space. Then you could put another lid on top of that (I'm guessing Troy has a few extra lids, too).
Or you could take Mark's idea and find some way to connect one of the sets of bottom vents with a piece of PVC so you would have a drain when the party was over.
I first saw the kettle chair idea on Good Eats.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5tytP4Do-A
skip forward to about 2:00 for a couple of glimpses of his construction. That's some pretty fancy upholstery on that thing! I think I'd flip the wheels/feet around, though, to show off the whitewalls.
that's where we saw it too
Cool. Now I just need to figure out how that kettle chair idea came to be associated with the consumption of alcohol. ;-) Maybe you could add a cupholder to the side! A Weber chimney should be just about the right size...
Troy we need to make a serious exchange so we can get some of these projects going...
Brian
i'm taking the fam shopping at woodfield on saturday. want me to bring a few bowls and my extra cajun bandit rotisserie ring along?

I just tried it again, and the link is working fine for me. Not sure what the problem would be. Maybe you could try searching YouTube for 'Porterhouse Rules'. It is clip 3 of 3.
Troy let me know, I'll be around, I can meet you somewhere along 90 if you want....
Brian
definitely. i'll bring a few bowls and the ring.
i won't be able to hang out though, wife and kids will be in the car and anxious to get to woodfield. celebrating the little ones birthday and doing all the back to school shopping)
YOu tell me, There is a gas station at the corner of 90 and Randall I can meet you there...
Brian
both me and hogsy cant get it to work over here in aus
can someone please post some screenshots
now that GADIAL GANING has taken two 22in kettle lids as light fittings i have 2 bowls that need to be used
hence the big bump

try this link at 15:24
thanks for the bump.
brian, lets do this shit.
lets set a date for sometime in january or february for me to go there and figure out how to make this work.
Okay, so my wife and I are looking at this chair on You Tube... we have some concerns. 1) doesn't look like it would be , ahhem, wide enough for those of us who may be wider than the rest. Granted, you could cut wider, but the structural integrity might be compromised. 2) For those of us that are pushing 2 bills plus, those legs look like they may not hold us. Solutions??
Since my wife is watching me write this, and for the record, she is NOT 2 bills plus. And I'm not telling how many....half bills she is!
chad. the final legs won't be the typical aluminum, they'll be steel pipe.
they'll be welded to the triangle (or attached somehow)
and the cut to the bowl will be wider.
i'm several bills, and my testing shows that my can will still fit.
:)finally found the ep on the web after many hrs trying >:(
it was just not available thru links provided to us aussies ???
now i see watcha mean 8)
this should be some project 8)
doesnt look like the handles are still on the bowl
http://www.tubeplus.me/player/1628334/Good_Eats/season_14/episode_1/Porterhouse_Rules/%22
The handle is in the back also it looks like they did use the regular legs just bent them over and are using the wheels as a flat stable footing. I'm very glad you guys aren't using the regular legs as I'm over two bills and I'd be scared to! its a little late but here is that screen shot.

I would use steel tubes for the legs, like rigid conduit or something. I would get them cut to a length. Then I would prob drill a hole and put a strong rope between each leg so they would not be able to stretch too far...
Brian
why not just use the triangle?
I'll try it and see how strong it is. Strength is my number one issue. I really don't like those wheels bent like that. I'll come up with something clever. I'm ready Troy, we just need to meet. Sounds like Stu might be coming to Jeff's house. Maybe we can meet up for that. I have a grill for Jeff and a grill for Stu....
Brian
What about this as the base?

Awesome! Now that's a BBQ stool. The red looks really good. Nice job.
Oh Yeah...... That's the Shit!!!!
Nice Work
Shall I put my order in now?
Can't help but see a giant Aussie tongue sticking out of those redhead lips. It's the Sticky Fingers of barstools!
I'm a little sad to see a red get cut up like that, but it does look pretty good. Only thing I might change is putting some type red or black plastic edges around the sides. It looks like it could be sharp on either end of the cushion. I wonder how they mounted the base to the bowl. I'm assuming some bolts through the one touch vents.
the red is shot
has pin holes all through it so no i didnt trash a good redhead
i tech screwed the base to the kettle then long 8mm threaded rod from base of seat through kettle
no sharp edges anywhere good control on the angle grinder!
funny actually i hadnt really sat on it properly then last friday night when hogsy was over he literally jumped up on it it made a little porcelain craking noise but held up great thanks for the test hogsy you crash test dummy
Nice work Golly!
I like it! I bet some thin red protective foam around the cut would blend in nicely.
Great Idea, but the cushion looks kinda funny.. But I'm glad someone finally got around to making one! Nice job.. 8)
Is this the Weber Ass Catcher?
@Golly you broke it, it's never going to work now.
