Gearing up to do some longer cooks and need to pick up a thermometer. I don't need the expensive pro model. Was looking at the Maverick 733 and wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were.
I have the Maverick 733 and I like it. My only complaint is the contrast on the display. If it isn't the correct viewing angle it's hard to read.

I've dabbled in digital thermometers and decided to splurge and get this expensive device. It doesn't have an alarm but it's my favorite yet.

The Maverick Et71 has worked good for me so far and is budget friendly at $17. I use @Hoosierkettle method a lot for when I'm grilling. Cant have enough of them.

I love the Maverick 733. It's just reassuring to be able to glance at the remote display from inside the house and know you're cook temps are where you want them to be. Mine has been used quite abit at the dock under really crappy saltwater conditions and just keeps chugging. I highly recommend it. if I didn't own two already I'd consider the thermoworks "Smoke"unit that Troy Reviewed here- http://weberkettleclub.com/blog/2016/10/18/thermoworks-smoke-first-look-and-unboxing/ (http://weberkettleclub.com/blog/2016/10/18/thermoworks-smoke-first-look-and-unboxing/)

Ha. Mine too.
I have the 732, and love it. I also have a 733, but haven't had a reason to open it yet. Was just too cheap to not buy it.
If you don't want to invest much, start with one of these to get the hang of how your cooker runs, temp wise.

This is really good, and accurate, for the price.

The Maverick products are nice too. I have the 732.
So I think I have it narrowed down to the Maverick 733 or the Thermoworks Smoke. I know the smoke is more money but is it worth the extra $$?
I have the Maverick 733 and it works great. Only thing is I wish the probes were a little bit longer, but I set a small stool next to the WSM to set the base on.
I cant remember what I paid for it $50? and it came with a free set of bear claws to shred pulled pork from Amazon.
The Thermoworks Smoke wasn't available then, I want it now, but not sure it is any better than the Maverick 733.
Another thing to consider is the Smoke probes have that spring on the end of probe, I don't know how you route your probes, but will they fit your current set up

When I'm not using one of the Performers I set mine on a Kingsford Charcoal Caddy. Also at the dollar store a cheap sealing plastic container is good insurance against rain.
