I ordered this grill grate for my new Performer, thinking my grill would have the nickel plated steel grate.
I was wrong. Some how, some way, my Performer came with the stainless grate with the removable center!
Anyway, I wrote the seller (8801baron) and requested to cancel the order if he was OK with it. A representative named Mark wrote me back, cancelled my order, and thanked me for considering their product.
He didn't have to do this, and could have enforced the sale if he chose to. After all, I agreed to the purchase. My problem...not his.
If you are considering a stainless grate, give these people a shot.

Are you talking about the Weber Gourmet Bbq System grate? From what I understand, while it is thicker and better made than the standard grate, it is still plated steel
This is stainless. Won't hold a magnet.

That thing is schweet !
A little pricey, but it's from 1/4" 304 rod and has some time in it.
I'm gonna have to agree with soobaerodude the gbs cooking grate is plated go on and order the eBay SS grate. There was a write up on the difference between the weber SS grate and other SS grates. Which of the gbs accessories do you have? Got my final gbs accessories from Germany last week to complete the run. Waffles anyone?
The weber gourmet grill grates are nickel plated steel....
They are much much thicker than standard weber grates...but still steel...see webers website which details such.
Soeaking of as grates...
Anyone have weber oem part numbers for
Weber oem ss cook grates for 22.5" bowl....
Weber oem ss cook grates for 18.5" wsm....top cook grate
Weber oem ss cook grates for18.5" wsm lower cook grate

I personally love cast iron (all of my cookware except one pot I use for acidic foods). That said, keeping cast iron grates seasoned on an open fire is virtually impossible without a lot of elbow grease and time.

#80728 is the Weber part number for 22.5" SS cooking grate. You have to call Weber as it is not listed on their website. Cost is about $72 delivered.
Here is the the thread with the discussion and comparison between the SS and Gourmet grates - http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/ss-cooking-grate-for-the-22'/
Here is a comparative picture of my SS grate from Weber and a Gourmet system grate(SS grate at bottom of photo)

Anyone have oem part numbers for weber wsm 18.5"...both top n bottom cook grates ss ?
Weber doesnt make any SS grates for the wsm. But they do make a 18.5" SS hinged cook grate for the kettle which you can use for the upper section of the wsm. P/N 80730. Lower section you're gonna hafta have custom made and if you're cheap that will never happen. Again this has been written about countless times.
@Filibuster .... thanks..very helpful.
Ill report back on this after trying...but im oretty sure if you remove the wsm grate strap which are pretty much useless...and instead use the male side of the body bolts...you can fit the top grate to the lower grate section...basically its the grate straps which block lowering the top grate to the bottom grate
@toolhead Here is another thread in the WSM section that discusses 18.5 grates. Part numbers are in there:
http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/wsm-weber-smokey-mountain/new-grates-for-a-18-5/
Ok I got you now its just that youve been clamoring specifically for wsm SS grates which weber doesn't make. Now I can see cutting the straps just above the lower nuts and bolts, eliminating the upper straps, then cutting the upper bolts flush to the nuts, that should minimize any angle going in and out. Either way you do it keep us posted.
I have a pair of hinged stainless steel 18 1/2 inch cooking grates that I purchased from Weber several years ago. The top one fits perfectly in my WSM while the bottom one rests securely on the lower hinge strap bolts. The lower grate will sit about one inch higher but it makes no significant difference imo.
