Before we get too off track in the Mystery Box thread, lets start a new one here to lock in the next Kettle Club meetup. Jeff is willing (maybe even anxious) to host a meet'n'cook at his place in mid June. Sounds great to me! FYI - June 22nd is the annual hands-on grilling party at the Schaumberg Weber Grill in the morning.
Jun 22 10a–12p Hands on! 4th of July BBQ Grilling. Join us for the 2nd annual hands on grilling party. $85
http://www.webergrillrestaurant.com/locations/?schaumburg&mcid=0&scid=3&id=82
Might be fun to combine the two and practice the tricks learned right away. Maybe I can get us a look inside the ultimate mystery box: the one-of-everything warehouse? Either way, I nominate the 22nd as the date for the next meetup, and I'll bring my new little blackie for you all to perv. Might even fire her up!
Unfortunately, the weekends of June 22 and June 29th are out for me. I will be out of town.
Glad you started this one Marty. Lets get all interested parties to pick a weekend. I tossed out mid June because after the 1st week in the month, the Chicago area is typically safe from any real cold temps.
I'm open the the weekends of June 15th, July 6, 13, or 20th. Do we need to go beyond this yet? How bout head counts of those interested in something like this?
Options or suggestions for this weekend? Bring a grill to show off(show and shine grill show?) LOL I have a bags set, a large firepit for at night, bbq your favorite meal? I have plenty of colored grills to put into action...or WSM's.
Count me in....the earlier the better. I dont think I can wait until July. How about a little swap meet component as well.

Interesting. We have part of our deal done :)
Love that swap meet idea, but I'll likely be on the buying end, not the selling end. Saturday, June 15th sounds good to me. I'm out the week of the 4th. and agree with G; July is too late.
First three Saturdays in June work for me.
I'd be happy to smoke something. (In the WSM that is.)
The first or second Saturday would be the best. (June 1, 8 )
First 3 weekends of June (1,8,15) are clear for me. Let's get this on the calendar soon. I would like to nominate the 15th...
I see a pattern of June 15th being a common date. Lets wait for a few others to chime in yet.
I have confirmed with SWMBO that the 15th works for us.
The 15th is now marked on the calendar....in ink.....
15th works for me!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
As of right now the 15th is fine for me...but you never know with the kids activities this summer.
After talking to a few others...it looks like June 15th will be the day. Pray for good weather...that's the only thing that could screw this up.
Details to follow once the time gets closer.
Feel free to bring one of your favorite grills to display, trade, or sell! I will have plenty of mine available...kettles/WSMs for those of you that would like to cookout and make one of your favs. Bring your camera, and whatever you want to drink. I will have bags to play, and a fire pit going as the day gets later.
If anyone is not local to Chicago, but would like to attend, that's just fine.
Can't wait Jeff - thanks a ton for hosting. Still hope to brew something up with Weber Corporate, and will keep everyone informed if that happens. Maybe the rain plan is to meet for a meal at the Lombard Grill?
That's a great rain plan Marty. Now hopefully its dry and sunny!

agreed
Jeff,
Thank you for offering to host! I would like to work with you to provide some food from the smoker and/or the grill. If you like, we can collaborate off line on a menu.
Regarding out of towners, we have a commuter RR with stops in both my town and Jeff's. I'm sure we can arrange transportation to anyone who might find it convenient to travel that way. I'm not sure if it helps, but it is available. (The other end of the line is downtown and across the street from Amtrak.)
Oh man I might be able to make this!!
I'll be driving to Gulf Shores Alabama that day, I'll try to stop and get some bbq in honor of the day.
Sound like a great time! I will be in Canada that day grilling Venison Polish in honor of this day.
Maybe I can drive to Stu's place and catch a ride from there!
I have a comp the previous weekend. Gotta feeling I'll get a big NFW from the SoDT.
I'm planning on being there....so what am I bringing? Old grills? Stuff to trade? Cash to buy stuff? What?

All of the above and whatever else you'd like!
FYI - my wife just confirmed that she will be in Chicago that weekend, and agreed to tag along. I did NOT show her those pool-party pics that have been showing up here lately!
Well I'll try to get some stuff together....If anyone want's some kind of special handles. let me know now so I can get everything together.....Or if there are grills on the selling block please let me know so we can start wheeling and dealing.....I already have stuff for Jeff and Stu, and Hank. I'm gonna try to get stuff done for Marty too. I'll start going through what I have that may be up for sale....

Brian...if you wanna bring a grill to show off...that would be cool. How's Grandpa doin?
I was gonna go to Grandpa tomorrow, but I think I'll go with my other 26 I'll see what the weather looks like tomorrow....
As for the meet up, If I can cram the Seville, mothership 2, and my chestnut copperton I will.....plus I have a grill for Stu....
I'll bring the 76/77 "story" kettle. It' going to be sweet! I get to spend next weekend cleaning it up, can't wait.
On the topic of wheeling and dealing I'd be interested in a yellow, avocado, lime, or light grey 22 (although I'm sure everyone is, lol)...Or any red or dark green smokey joes.
The guy I bought the black 22 from recently had another grey 22. The bowl and lid seemed OK, but the rest needed help. I can give you his number if you are looking locally - he's near Midway.
Was it the light grey one or the dark grey one?..I'd like one like Ken (Washington state area) has
It was darker than Ken's. Had one crease in the lid. Plenty of character, but he was asking $60 originally. I had him down to $30 as a bundle, but still couldn't pull the trigger. Wood handles all around were toast. Wheels and grates were toast. Triangle was toast. I suppose if you had a donor 22, it would make sense, but even then, maybe $20 tops. There are other, better ones out there.
Listen handles are no issue..... ;)
Is this still happening? If so, I can probably make it!
That is fantastic gums!

Yes...only thing that will stop this gathering is the weather. Sure to be lots of fun, lots of food, lots of vintage grills! We will have a fire going later on, plenty of grills available to cook on for those that might want to make a favorite dish. We will start finalizing details soon. We just over a month away!
BTW...backup plan is going to eat at Weber Grill Restaurant in Lombard, Il. I have been there before and they have lots of vintage grills on display!
I might try to convince the hubs to go that weekend if he's not working. What area is this in as we would need a place to stay?
Hey there Cookingmama
I am in the town of West Chicago. Good places to stay would be in Naperville, St. Charles, or maybe even Geneva. All nice towns. The later two have the Fox River going through them. Probably some nice hotels and views depending on your budget!
Big B and I are planning on making the trip with our wives. Can't wait to meet everyone.
Hey Guys and Gals
Weber Fest Part I. June 15th, 2013.
I'm gonna ask that for those of you that know for sure you will be attending, please respond. If you are a maybe, please let me know also. I'm gonna start trying to plan some specifics and will need an idea of head count. If you are bringing a friend or spouse, please indicate that as well.
All responses should be to this thread so all of us know details.
As I mentioned before, I will have plenty of grill space available if any of you want to make something you really like. I'll have Kingsford Blue available. I will have a variety of sodas available...if you would like any sort of beer or alcohol, please bring that. If you want to bring any sort of sides or appetizers...let me know.
I will have a set of bags for those of you that want to play. I will have a fire going too...weather permitting.
I will have plenty of old grills out and about, and it sounds like others will be bringing some old stuff too to show, sell, or maybe even swap.
Any of questions or suggestions should be directed here too. I'd like to make this a memorable day, so feel free if any of you have any other good ideas! Bring cameras if you like, and of course an appetite! PM me for my address! I live in the town of West Chicago, Il. 60185, for those of you looking to see where I'm located.
Jeff I plan on coming as long as my daughter doesn't need a ride to work or my son (he's 2) needs a babysitter. Wife is most likely working that day. For once I don't plan on cooking that day, lol. When you get things set closer to the date I'll figure out something to bring or $$$ to give towards meat purchases by the other guys so I can mooch their great cooks ;D
the hubs says he is willing to go....though he stated feeling out of place because grilling is not his thing. i told him not to worry that some of the guys were bringing the wives! ;) ;) ;)
i wont be bringing a grill because the hubs WILL NOT allow one in his car...blah. but happy to check others out. its a 5 hour drive for us...so i dont know what side dish i could bring. will think about that one.
it is a good maybe for us.... just the two of us. have to see how his finals at school work out and work schedule coming up.
thanks for hosting this Jeff!
We will be there. I'd be glad to prepare something - perhaps from the smoker.
I will be there. I HIGHLY doubt my wife will be.
Man does this sound like fun! The closer it gets the more I wish I could attend. Hats off to Jeff for organizing this event.
I have a new grill to show on the 15th. Its recently acquired, and something I've "sort of" never seen before. Its certainly a Weber, and 60's era. No more hints available. I'd be surprised if anyone has ever seen one...even Ed! Maybe we can use Google Hangout to let others see too!
Confirming I'll be there with my wife Margie. I'll bring one or two of my recent finds just to be sure people realize that Weber actually made Black grills!
Marty...we'll have to set those "black ones" off to the corner! :)

Nice! I'll be on island in Canada, I'll have to tap into the owners WIFI to see the pictures of this one.
I'll be there....Cookingmama, tell the hubby he can hang out we are just a fun group of people not just grill nerds....If he gets really bored there are a hundred things he can do around Chicago.....I'm thinking there has never been any kind of thing like this before....Who would have ever had a Weber grill collectors get together....It may be the first one in history. I would doubt that this many collectible grills would ever have been assembled anywhere else. I'm bringing some stuff....Grandpa will be there, mothership 2, I could bring the Chestnut Copperton, the Seville? Maybe even the Metal handled blue...Plus I need to bring Stu's grills....I think Jeff has a Yellow and a lime....I'd love to fire up Mothership 2 and maybe I'll do a Brat hot tub....
I'm working on a MAYBE. Trying to convince my wife is like pulling teeth while trying to find a lime in the rough. If not, it'd be cool to do an interactive chat thing.

Hi, my attendance is still TBD at the moment but if I can make it I can volunteer to bring my Ranch Kettle if there is interest.
There is a possibility that Brian may be bringing his old Ranch. I don't think we will be at a shortage for grill space that day. I would say probably leave it behind considering how much effort it would require on your part! Hope you can still make it otherwise!
Not sure if I said before but as of right now big b and I are making the trip from Michigan with our wives. I'm sure my wife will be off to ikea. She may even slow down enough for us to jump out of the car without injury.
Hey Ted...glad you guys will be able to attend!
People are coming from far and wide. It sounds like it's going to ge a rager! It wouldn't surprise me if Golly and Hogsy show now. ;)

Ok sounds good! I know we won't run out of grill space but I'll leave the idea out there if someone wants to see one in the flesh. It's not that much effort to bring. It fits in the truck:

No, I won't be taking offers for it. ;)
Add this to the WKC glossary: RUV= RANCH UTILITY VEHICLE 8)
You know what...everyone bring whatever grill they would like! The more the merrier. I have plenty of room in my yard for whatever you all think you can throw at me. Imagine some of the pictures we will be taking! Lets make it big!
I need to make sure I'm in town for this event. Can't wait to tell the wife what we're doing that day!

June 15th I'm stuck in the car driving to Gulf Shores. It'll be great when I get there but I'll probably get stuck with fast food on the way down. Somebody eat something good for me.

Jeff, I'm starting a new job in 2 weeks and the home office is in Elgin, IL. I'm combining work trips. Now your Chicago CL isn't safe from "TEAM CALI" lol. Regardless, I grew up in Lake County and come back frequently.

Hey Craig...something can always say "suddenly come up!"
I'll be driving the family to the beach house we're renting that day. We should be in and settled by around 4 or 5. If anyone's got a online meet up going around then maybe I can drop in. The internet at that rental is about a zillion times faster than my house.

Time is getting closer!
WEATHER FOR TODAY. Looks like a chance of showers may roll through early in the Chicago area, but looks like it will clear out mid morning. May be a bit overcast, but I think mid morning thru afternoon will be dry. There is a chance of rain or storms tonight...so we'll go as long as the weather holds out!!! I think we are gonna get lucky and have a dry day!
Hank is bringing a side and a dessert. He plans to smoke some hard boiled eggs and make deviled eggs with them. He'll also bring a cobbler or two for something sweet. (http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/grilled-dessert-recipes/peach-cobbler/)
Terry will bring some beer. <--------HOGSY!
Brian will be making beans
Ted is bringing bacon wrapped jalapeño shrimp
Stu will be bringing an oriental salad, maybe a sweet treat, and perhaps some chicken.
Marty's wife will bring a good potato salad - a big batch. maybe make a blueberry pie or two
I will have burgers, brats, fresh corn on the cob, some soda, and the usual condiments.
WHO'S BRINGING THE BEER???
Hogsy...youre so excited you missed that Terry is bringin some beer! Its too bad you and Golly couldn't have made it, that THAT would have been dedication! I would have told Golly to bring ALL his grills to show off!

And the 'Turds.....I see no 'Turds on the menu !!!!!!
According to the weather man there's a mesoscale spinning vortex heading our way. :o Hopefully it will move on by noon.
Hank...stop scaring people with big words!! :) I think we're gonna get lucky today.
No doubt. And besides, it's a great day for photos. Bright sun is no good for that. Pies are going in the oven as we speak...
Jeff I'm bringing bacon wrapped jalapeño shrimp. Hopefully no one has a shellfish/seafood allergy.
Probably grab some thing else to bring too. Inspiration will hit at the grocery store I'm sure.
Ted...great idea, sounds good!
getting some showers pushing into the area now...back end of the rain is at the Iowa/Illinois border and moving straight west, should be pushed through here by 11ish.
The pie could use ice cream. (Stay tuned for pics) Anyone in a position to pick up some vanilla?
consider it done

I like cobbler. :(
I love cobbler.... :'( I'm not crying...... damned fake onions anyway...
I need to get a dutch oven again and reactivate my camp cooking skills...
