So 4 or so weeks ago EricD one posted a craigslist ad in online finds for a NIB Simpsons Kettle. After seeing the ad it was a Smokey Joe. I got in touch with the seller, and after some back & forth we struck a deal. So in the end 50 bucks + shipping & I'll be the proud owner of a Simpsons Smokey Joe still in original packaging. So, today it shows up. Wow! big box. Obviously seller packed it securely so it would make it from Boston to Stoney Creek ON safely.
So here's what I have;

Damn it I hate when sellers aren't honest about what they have!!!!
Are you shitting me? You thought your were getting a HS SJ and got a HS OTG?? Wow you got hit with some really good luck. It will be interesting to see how it looks when you unbox it. A lot of the NIB kettles tend to have wear spots on the lid rim...hopefully your good luck stays with you for the reveal!
Doh!
for real??? Lucky lucky lucky
Oh hot damn. Get that baby out of the box and assembled. Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW! I'd have bought that if I had paid closer attention to the posting (I saw it before it was posted here)! Great find and pickup-hopefully you aren't too disappointed!!
@Darko What did they charge you for shipping? I would have been told $70 and said for a smokey joe no way and blown the whole deal. Nice job on one of the best scores I have seen.
My buddy still calls ALL Weber kettles "smokey joes". He confuses me all the time
Absolutely amazing! Great score! I can't believe how many I've seen for sale since I bought mine at Christmas. I over paid but I have no regrets, I love it.

It was higher than that, but I thought basically, when am I going to get the chance to buy one. Like any kettle, the question is when am I going to get the chance for another, what's it going to cost and am I willing to pay that price? In this case I answered yes. So, I'm happy.

I'm with you on that. Got my Simpsons SJ for $89 plus shipping (around $30 I think) and was happy with the price I paid. It sits in my living room and has never been cooked on. I'll double or triple my money with a little time and patience. Until then its a talking peice that sites next to the fireplace.
WTF ?? That's awesome!
I remember that thread in Online finds .... Thought it was an SJ, too. Get that assembled!!

well, you folks in the Chicago area should enjoy this. If you can go and visit Weber you will see this Simpsons Weber. I made a deal, Weber will have this grill on display in their history room, and I got some stuff in exchange.
Very cool!
So all done now. Weber traded me a Copper Performer Deluxe for my Simpsons OTG. I'm dropping the Simpsons grill off at Weber Canada and will be picking up the performer there in a few days or so.
Awesome trade! Congrats

Damn, dude .... I would have traded you my C&B grass green Performer for it .... Next time, eh?? :D :D ;)
I actually tried to get them to make me a copper 26". Didn't happen.
That's awesome! And kudos to you for making the request. That would have been epic if they delivered!
Yeah, I'd probably be walking around with a permanent boner if the had accepted the offer. As would probably many grillfellas one the pics were posted. Heck, when I told my buddy about the deal, I think he was more excited than I was.
As it stands, We'll be going to Weber on Friday to make the trade.
Then either Friday evening or Saturday, first cook will be Tomahawk steaks.
So here it is on it's final journey

Shit! that looks like a casket in a hearse.
Maybe a good thing if you consider Palatine heaven for Webers.
Anyhow; To end this story. I dropped this off at Weber Canada and picked up my new Copper Performer Deluxe. So, shortly this Simpsons OTG will be on display in Palatine, Illinois.
That's cool man! Congrats!

Wow! Pretty awesome story all the way around.
How did the deal with weber go down? Did you contact them?
Yeah, I emailed them to see if there was any interest on their part.
So I talked to Weber today. The Simpsons grill was delivered to Jim Stephen (George's son). Hopefully he is as happy with his end of the deal as I am with mine. Hope to have some pics soon.
Good story, Darko. Tfs

I had a Simpsons SJ, sold it on ebay for 50 plus shipping. Didn't know at the time what I had and I only paid 15.00 for it at a second hand store and it was still in the box. If someone on here purchase a Simpson SJ about 5 or 6 yrs ago from Troy ny that was mine.
amazing story , but that kettle would have been with me for life lol
At the time I was only collecting Smokey Joes , Since then I'm liking the 18's & 22's and... Weberitis is a wonderful thing.
I think they should have made you a Copper Ranch Kettle! Oh, well as least it will be on display for folks to see. It must cost a fortune to change colors on one of the Weber production lines. And you know Copper 26's wouldn't sell, so they would loose money. I can't figure Weber. They just keep on producing the same old thing(at least here in the states). They won't make us colored kettles, but they can go off on the Summit Charcoal boondoggle. Wonder what the sales figures look like on those.
