Title: Old style ash catcher
Post by: Josh G on December 08, 2015, 02:20:24 PM
Does anyone know if the new style ash catcher pot would fit on the old ring?  Not sure if the holes would line up but it would allow people to get a new pot without having to deal with the annoying squeeze and drop style.

I don't think it will work.

I have an old ring sitting around from replacing the ashcatcher on my SS performer.  I'll see if it works or not, but I don't think it will.

Not even worthy trying it out.  Put an old pan by the new pan and you can see they are a lot different.

I wonder if you drilled 2 holes in the new pot and used the handle off the old one if it would work.

Everything it totally different.  The pot is maybe the same size. But the handle part is totally different.

I borrowed a new style ash catcher pot from a friend who was kind enough to let me drill a couple holes in it as an experiment.  I drilled two 1/4" holes about 1/2" down and lined them up with an old style pot.  Insert the old style handle and it fit perfect on my older OTG.  So if you have a ring and handle in good shape but need a new pot you can retro fit the new one to fit.  It actually was smoother than my old one.

@Josh G -  That is an awesome mod!  The best part about it that you will never see that it has been modified unless the pan is off of the grill.  Great job!

And yes I know about the triangle, I just got it home from Craigslist the day before.  I didn't do it.  I swear!

What about the triangle?

Another solution...weber probably still stocks the n-1 ash ring and ash pan???
They must still be stocking it to support and service their warranties?
