Title: Covers: Yes or No ?
Post by: javahog2002 on February 13, 2013, 02:41:38 PM
Do you use Weber covers on your kettles ?

Whats the diff between the following 18" covers:   7452 (red kettle)  7301  (white kettle )  ?

Cheers and Beers !

Please allow me to translate from the Australian.......

No, he doesn't use them, because all his kettles are housed in "Gadial Gaining", which in turn needs to be translated from the Aboriginal...meaning: "Smoke Cave"

Unless of course, they are newer finds of vintage covers then he may use them, thus keeping in step with the general vintage quality of stuff around here....and in "Gadial Gaining"....... 8)

PS: Me personally, only on the wife's brand new one.......

I keep mine covered when I can. I have no cover for my S/S performer and 22.5 WSM. I tend to leave the cover off my Silver A in freezing weather because it tends to freeze on (in winter.)

I also only put covers on when the grills are dry.

I have covers for everything (but the only thing that fits on my 4-handled WSM is a construction-grade trash bag).  I always mean to put covers on, but then it invariably rains, after which I wait for the grills to get dry.  When they are dry, I think, "I'll put the cover on before dark," and then I'm reminded when it starts raining again.

I cover mine.... except now I'm in a weird situation, my brown kettle is wearing my 90s redhead's cover, my newest addition to the stable (the '79 redhead) is wearing my brown kettles vintage cover and my '95 redhead is riding bareback.  :o  Time to pick up another cover. Oh and I keep my 18.5 covered, when its not in pieces in my garage.  ;D

Well...I was bad before Weberitis... Now they are all garaged, but no covers. They are not out in the elements of mother nature. They collect some dust, but being polished, wipes of nice with a cotton towel.

Mine all stay in the covered porch in the winter.  Summer the performer goes outside and when I remember I cover.  usually it rains to remind me. ::)

Mine all ride barbeack, but are kept in a tent when not in use. The one in use can handle the elements to help it get that weathered patina I like so much. I would like to have a vintage cover, but just for show.

I like to keep mine covered. I feel it's the right thing to do but, I also have days where I uncover them and let them "Breath" and enjoy looking at them.

;D  Me too! Through my back patio windows. When I'm inside, all I have to do when I'm on my computer here, is turn to my right and there they are. Especially in the winter. During nicer weather, I sit on the patio usually before cooking or after a "family bath", drink beer, and enjoy looking at my grills. Yeah, I'm 'that guy'.

I usually do. But living in the Maryland humidity doesn't bode well. I find that moisture collects under the cover and traps it inside, which creates mold.. I'm seriously considering leaving them off, or finding old new stock covers that breathe.

I don't cover.
the only motivation I have for covering is to keep the handles nice.

I'd rather see my grills daily.

I'd say partially. Like Troy I like to walk by the kitchen window and see them out on the patio but if rain is coming then I'll cover.

I cover them mainly for dust, and because FUCKING SQUIRRELS will scratch them.

I purchased all my cookers new, I keep them covered and garaged. I've also seen others leave them out all year. I would think it's just a personal preference.

I used to be diligent about covers. But they don't do much for rain or moisture. With all the tree coverage now... I'm not so worried about sun damage.

I bought a Ravenna brand cover for an SSP last year, and it's the best cover of any grill I've ever owned. When other grills get that moisture/condensation on the lid from rain, this cover keeps the SSP dry. And it fits easily.

Covers yes, to many grills are coming out of the woodwork to keep up, when things slow down I'll do a mass buy.

I cover all my grills, both for their protection and mine. With covers on, my wife can't tell when I've added a new grill to the lineup.

I used to have all my grills outside covered except WW and my Genesis gasser. But now, I only make sure the WSM gets covered.  Others I don't even cover most of time. One drawback is all my nice wood handles aren't so nice anymore.

I use a 26inch grill cover. It isnt form fitting bit works well and has ties.
