Title: My SS Performer Lift Kit
Post by: Bman on September 05, 2015, 01:41:33 PM
Back from the abyss as I haven't been here is a loooong time.  23 unread messages to sort through also.   :o  Sorry to those people...

One of the things I like about my gen 3 performer up on the deck is the added height.  The red SS below the deck still gets the lions share of the duty as it's much better protected from Mother Nature.  With that, i created a simple solution to the lagging height.

Started with an old gasser which was destined for the dumpster, and cut 4.5" off of each leg.
Then took a hunk of pressure treated 2X2 and ripped it down to 1 1/8" to fit inside the frame legs.

Then cut the treated to 8"ish each and tapped them into the lifting legs until they bottomed out or reached the axle holes

Flipped the SS over to remove the wheels & casters

Then tapped the 4 leg extenders into place.  With the axle in place, it prevents the wood from slipping into the axle space

Put the wheels & casters back on

And we're now 4.5" taller than before.  With the treated cut pretty snug, I didn't need/use any fasteners to keep the lift kit in place.

Already lovin' the new height and I haven't even fired it up yet.   8)

Welcome back from the dead.....where on earth have you been.

One of those PM's is from me wondering what happened to you.

That is an awesome mod right there.  Even as a short guy, I like the height in the newer  model  performers.

Hope you are back for a while.

Nice! I did a similar mod to a bar cart we use in the house. I'm a pretty average height guys and find even the 22's are just a bit too low. Great idea!

Thanks fellas.  It was actually a pretty simple & quick mod to do. (if you have a gasser frame, sawzall, & table saw handy)

how much difference in height between the two?

The SS measured 30" in height
The Gen 3 is 33"
The lift-kit SS is 34.5"

Nice mod, funny I was just telling my wife a couple days ago there was a guy here named Bman that used to post all the time and have not seen him for months. Her reply was "maybe he died", glad to hear from you again!

Brilliant, as always @Bman !!  Any chance you have any extra gasser frames at your place?

...the only problem is I will no longer be able to park my red SS in the back of the station wagon-- the door height is about 30.5"  ;-)
