I have a OTG kettle and plan to build a side table, I have done a bit of research and the majority all seem to attache to one handle. I have also ordered a lid bail that I plan to install so the one handle approach is not going to work for me. Has anyone built a wood side table (removable) that attaches to both handles?
use conduit clips from hardware stores...

Mirror clips might work, too...

Thanks for the response guys. I would like to stay away from the clips because i fear they will affect the seal on the kettle. I was thinking of making it wide enough to use the handles.
The lid lip overhangs enough that a thin clip won't affect the seal. I used to have the clip on utensil hooks and the kettle snuffed out just fine
kind of like a faux performer or maybe the "barrel Bar-B-Q"

Ok how about this-

Really simple design, it uses two pieces of timber to lock onto the handle, it's easily removed for storage. Let me know if you want more pics
Wow
@Hogsy I am also looking at building a table and/or cart. I would love to see some pics of how that attaches. I love that dark wood color with the redhead.
@Hogsy that is the basic idea...except I will need to go wider due to the fact that I will be instilling the Matertouch lid bale. With the 2 handles on the OTG the handle will be "front and back" rather than on the side across from the lid bale.

Here's some pics . As you can see it's a really basic system to attach the table and it's a really sturdy table once installed. There's no reason you couldn't have one of these tables on each handle and have the lid bale installed as well (http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q585/joelhogston/Weber%20Tables/00AB8222-9500-4038-9223-4987C4D5F844_zpsp49obfxf.jpg) (http://s1165.photobucket.com/user/joelhogston/media/Weber%20Tables/00AB8222-9500-4038-9223-4987C4D5F844_zpsp49obfxf.jpg.html)

Thanks
@Hogsy ! Just one question, Do the 2x2 legs just stay in place by the weight of the table? I don't see a locking system.
Does this answer your question?

What a simple and brilliant design!
Man I love this table! I might have to build one of these!
Those are sweeeet tables. Has anyone drawn up the dimensions off of the originals by chance?

@Bugman , here is a thread that might help. On the 2nd page there is an excellent drawing.

Fantastic! Thanks Mac! I like the idea of the wood cleat over the metal clip, but I get that is for a wood handle...
Didn't want to hijack this thread so I started one of my own project.

@Bigdave and
@austin87 let me know if you have any questions. Fun little project!
@WNC that's a killer table. Thanks!
If you're handy with metal .... Then maybe consider something custom .... Like this:

I did a quick mock-up of the type Hogsy has to see if I would like it more than my SS Performer. I do!
It allows me to have a table on any of my grills. I think I may be selling the Performer and building a better version of this table.

I was thinking of adding a third fold down leg next to the kettle to support weight. Do you guys think that's necessary?

I don't think it's necessary, especially if you fit the table to the handle above the front leg, unless your planning on sitting on the table it should be able to handle any weight you put on it. I've never had one collapse on me and I've been using the table for years. I like the KISS setup of the table. It makes it easier to travel with or pack away once you've finished cooking. FWIW my table is a really tight fit on the handle , so some pressure is needed when attaching it to the handle
How did you find the sturdiness of the table once it was attached to the kettle?

I've got some 3/4" MDF for the countertop. Do you think that would be a good material for this project?
I would stay clear from MDF....once it gets some moisture it goes to pot fast.
