ok so here it go's. My dispatcher at work calls me today and says "don't you like old Weber grills" I reply, Um ya why whats up? he then says, Well did Weber make a lime green grill? I say "YEESSS, WHY?" He says oh I just seen one in town. Some old lady has it, and tells me where its located. Needless to say I do a drive by to see if it's real low and behold "Thar she blows"
I'm going by in the morning to talk to the owner and see if she's up for a trade.

Nice! 8) Is it just my eyes or is the front metal bowl handle missing? ???
not sure if it's my eyes, the photo, or all the vodka - but it looks like a 26er.
to my knowledge, there's no such thing. but to me, that looks bigger than normal in that photo.

Good Eye Craig! Yeah, too bad the important handle is missing.

I wish that there were. But even through my own beer
googles GOGGLES the wheels look to be normal size.

Funny you should say that Troy. Thats the first thing I thought too. Even the ash pan looks larger like a 26. Sadly though, a 26 lime was never made. How cool would that be?
If that front handle is missing, Bob, you can upsell her in the trade as saying the one you have has all the handles. It could be the deal maker! :)
I'd still get it if you could. The handle can always be replaced, I'd go get that grill...
+1 here. Go get that Limey! She's waiting to be rescued! :D
Good luck
Ate you taking the chicago kettle mafia with you or are you taking your home town chapter??
Oh, Geeeeeeez!!!!!
Here we go again !!!
He's even got a stealth "Slot Camera" installed on the vechile...... 8)
Golly's right! Make sure you get the go ahead from the underboss before you make any moves. Then make the ol' lady an offer she can't refuse. 8)
I bet she gives it to you. ;)
You could tell her as your loading it in your vehicle....You might know who we are, BUT WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE! 8)
Ok, ok, ok. here's the skinny. After the first post I decided I couldn't wait. I loaded up the '94 black and gave it a shot. I got to the lady's trailer, knocked on the door and said.. " Hi um this might sound crazy but I noticed your green Weber and I was wondering if you might be willing to part with it? she said well I don't use it any more because all the rust on the grate but i still grill all the time as a matter of fact I'm grilling now.(all this is being said as we are walking together to the back yard in 26 degree weather) she go's on to tell me how the Weber was her late husbands and how he loved it so. she said that she wouldn't want to sell it as she wanted to clean it up and cook on it again because the grill she's using just doesn't cook like a Weber. We then came upon a Kingsford grill that she lifts the lid to show me hamburgers and wrapped in foil Parmesan cheese potato's. Its at this point that I say " well I have a newer black Weber that is in much better condition that i would be willing to trade her. It was so neat to watch the smile cross her lips as she said " you remind me of him :'(....
I said I have it with me would you like to see it? her response was yes, and after getting it out and setting it up she said " if you promise to use it I will trade you" we proceeded to talk and become friends for the next two hours ( I even got a dry rub recipe from her ;D ) Needless to say she is now the proud owner of a '94 black and I giggling like a little kid with my lime.
Now yes it is missing both of the bowl handles (good eye craig). It's a 22.5, ( it's the Vodka :o ) if only they made a 26 lime!! The top handle is bent to shit. but other than that I'm a happy camper :D :D

Awesome story! Makes me proud to be a Grillfella!
Great story and awesome score!
Great score and great story Bob! Man, what happened to those handles! Please share the Ol' Ladies rub recipe or else! 8)
I didn't ask about the handles, and what's good for one weber fella is good for all
1/2c paprika
1/4c kosher salt
1/4c sugar
2tbs mustard powder
1/4c chili powder
1/4c ground cumin
2tbs ground black pepper
1/4c granulated garlic
2tbs cayenne
For extra hot
Add an extra 1/4c
Mustard powder & black pepper.
Good job Bob. Clean it up, straighten the handle, tap out that ding on the lid with a rubber mallet. Take it back to her to show her and thank her again! Look forward to updated photos after you have time to work on it!
BTW...I got my red 26 and it was missing the handle as yours was. I was lucky enough to get a spare one Shaun had. I had it welded back on and its as good as new! Now finding a touch up paint to match that lime will be a whole different story. Its near impossible. I will post something very soon talking more about that.
That's an awesome story! :D Very nice score, Bob! Talk about a win-win. She gets a newer grill to cook on, because she knows that a Weber cooks better, and you get a gem to work on and restore and give it a second life. I agree with Jeff, it would be neat to show her, her late husbands grill after a restoration job. Looks like its a '77-'78 model. Very nice score indeed! 8) Don't forget to thank your dispatcher for kettlestalking for ya! ;D
awesome story. i'm really glad you got it.
I need to score a couple black grills just to have for trading purposes it seems. It sounds like a great tactic.
Wow! Now that is awesome. Great story. The story is as great as the score, congrats and thanks for the Rub Recipe. 3 months, three Limes found on WKC.
Greg
Its that story that makes the grill so much more special.. I think its what makes the entire WKC what it is.. I mean think about it.. We all have to eat.. How we cook, what we cook with, its those great stories and memories that we all share and enjoy.. What a great way to end the week! 8)

Thanks for the rub recipe. I will give it a try. On the widows grill. It;'s a funny thing, the last lime I picked up was from a guy who's dad was dead and the dad hated the grill with a passion! His wife bought it originally because it went with the backyard d'ecor and he was stuck with it.............for years! :o ;D

What a great upgrade story. We do need a separate "UPGRADED" thread.
Congrats, Bob! Awesome story. And +1 on the 'upgraded' theme. The great thing is that both Bob and the widow got upgraded. That's a beautiful thing. And that is a beautiful grill.

Have you tried an auto paint store? They can mix a custom blend and put it in a spray bottle. Napa on Roosevelt (East of Washington) can do that.
Good stuff man!

Hank...been there, done that at that location! :)
Both the story and grill are beautiful.
Bowl handles aside...just some light taps with a rubber mallet should straighten that top handle, a steel wool and polishing of the legs and ash disc, maybe a new wood handle from Brian, and it'd be ready to recommission for service. How's the inside look?
I worked on the small dent in the lid and straitened out the ash pan also. I'm going to wait till it's a little warmer before I go messing around with the top handle ( just in case ). I'm not washing her out in 16F ether. Anyway here is some day light photo's of her.

Nice, save that old grate for a Half Grill. What is that charcoal holder in the back? I have one like it, but it doesn't have any metal or a handle.
Nice work, Bob! Though it looks like you might have a full quiver-- might be time to sell me that red SS Performer. ;-)
Red Performer? What Red performer? I don't see no Red Performer. ;D ;)

Does any one have some extra bowl handles?
Hey I've got that same charcoal holder!
I love those charcoal holders, I have three of them and I see a red performer...and lastly that story is fucking awesome. That's what this shit is all about. That story prob made Mike Stavilund tear up. That's a really nice story. I have had more nice stories meeting these people who are selling these grills. Many people have so many good memories about the great times they had with their grills. Maybe these dumb grills are something more than just a thing to cook on. They last so long they become pert of so many family memories. I'm so glad you got that grill and made someone happy, and made a great story for everyone.
Bob-
What kind of handles are you looking for...old school tubular metal handles or flat metal ones that are meant for wood/plastic handles (I assume the tubular metal)? Each will attach easily with a small nut/bolt. Either way, I may be able to help out (but dont have any in lime... :)).

Well, I must admit I was thinking I could put some nice handles on to draw the eye away from the color match job I'm going to have to do. So the flat metal ones would be my first choice, but anything is better than nothing.
Great work Bob..... Cool story too!!
Bob-send me your address in a private email or through the board. I think I have what you want/need. Pics can be provided.
No pics needed I trust you guys. Thanks, I pm'd you my adress.

Stoned. 8) 7 as in seven degrees?! Whoah! :o We were in the 70's today.
Yesterday when I left for work, it was -1.7 degrees. Then it warmed up to 15 or so and we got four inches of snow. I was so happy!
A view outside on the patio as I type this. 15 degrees and windy! I've got to shovel to get ready for my Super Bowl cook.
