Title: Stuffed peppers question.....
Post by: Cookingmama on October 19, 2014, 10:40:42 AM
I ran a search but all I found were pictures and I had a question on technique.

I made stuffed peppers only once before , in the oven GASP!  ???  :o  :P !  They took forever to cook.  So, I researched some more, cooking my rice beforehand, and I read a lot pre-boil/Blanche the peppers.  Well, I'm making these on the grill this time.

Do I still need to preboil them for a few minutes?  I will also have some chicken stuffs on the grill.

I always cook the rice, but I've never parboiled the peppers.
I stuff the peppers that sit in a shallow dutch oven,  pour V-8 juice on each pepper until overflowing and make sure there's about a quarter- to half-inch of V-8 in the bottom of the dutch oven before I put them on uncovered for about 30-45 minutes at 350-400 degrees. I also baste the peppers with more V-8 about every 15 minutes.

Ya, no need at all to parboil the peppers.
Pre-cook the rice, and whatever meat you choose to use.
You are limited only by your imagination ... the possibilities are endless. One of my favourite meals.

I sometimes go with foil on the grate to prevent too much falling thru. Some marinara sauce to top them off.

Tomato sauce or juice works too. We like the tang of V-8 so that's all we use.

As Mac said. Pretty much do anything. I pre-cook the rice, add to raw burger and whatever else I may have to add.

These came out freaking awesome !  Like seriously , I could not stop raving about them.  Great! I don't think they'd be as good in the oven.
