This is it! The place to post your amazing kettle mods. You have the full month to show off all the things you've done to improve the functionality, usefulness, appearance or fun of grilling with your Weber.
Don't hold back, the simple and the complex are both equally important to see, and everything that shows up here will be immortalized in a special section of the gallery. Please describe the mods you submit as best you can. We want to know what went into the project, the parts you found, made, scavenged or stole, and how it made the grilling experience better for you.
C'mon WKC - show us what you got!
A quick reminder of the rules:
1. You must be a registered member of the WKC by October 31st to submit an entry.
2. Previously modified grills posted to the forums that are not in the current mod gallery are allowed.
3. Member "teams" are allowed, but only a single entry can be posted for each mod.
4. Mods must include a Weber charcoal kettle, GA, WSM, Ranch, or SJ in some way.
5. Action shots showing your modified grill fired up and cooking are encouraged.
6. Pics and description of your modified grill(s) must be submitted by October 31st by 5:00pm PST.
7. Members may submit as many modified grill entries as they like.
I must mod a kettle, a GA, a WSM, and a ranch? That's too much for me...
sorry for being so st00pid but what "club" to i have to be a member of?
i feel like i'm about as bright as a glow stick in a muddy river.
The Club = WKC
If you can read this, and are registered in the forums, you are in!
i like turtles.

• Koa wood handles for the lid and table
• Tel Tru thermometer
• Lid mod to allow lid to be hung on the bale wire for better access

Hey Winz..where did you get the wheels in the first few pics? Not the spoke ones but the solid painted ones? If you have a link, that would be awesome. So many on Amazon, I want to make sure I get the correct ones.
Beautiful work by the way..

Amazing work Winz! Love the copper theme. This photo is my favourite. How hard was it to repaint the badge? (PM me if you like so as not to clog the thread).
Awesome copper as Winz!
Epic copper and mini!
Silver to Gold conversion. I ordered two ash rings and buckets to convert my two Sam Adams 18.5 Silvers to Golds.
On to the operating table!

The parts
(http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s368/1911Ron/Grills/DSCF0839_zps714336f9.jpg)
I took the legs off to take the clips that held the ashpan on for the silver and then snapped the ring in place and fixed the sweeper and the arm and finished

Nice, Ron !!!!
Makes me think "Gary Cooper"......"High Noon"......looks like they could duel................ 8)
Twins! Thanks for becoming a member of the Mod Squad Ron. Somebody needs to do an Oktoberfest kettle in a nice amber color. But as most here know, I'm very fond of Black. I may need to follow your lead here!
Here's my entry. I had an old MBH bowl that was in foul shape and half of a 55 gallon drum. Well, put the two together and its a perfect tailgate fire pit.

I was so pissed - I thought I had the best idea for mod month... using the metal skeleton frame from a sidekick as a paper towel holder! I measured and it's the perfect width but those corners on the support wire are a real pain in the ass and you can't get the towel roll on there :-[
Will come up with something new before the end of the month ;)
How about Co - joined twins?
I built this table prior to owning any Performers. And it was a God send. It consisted of two MT's and a bunch of yellow balua which was oiled.
Not the best photo, but that's all I had in my phone right now.
I have found a better picture...
Or how about a home made Flamenco? In two sizes no less.
This be the Jumbo Flamenco using a Jumbo Joe.
And this is a regular, utilising an SJG.
And then to top it off, the Flamenco got the Korean treatment.
One of the originals that started it all for me was the table mounted MT. I wanted to cook on a kettle, but wanted some work space.
This was originally built on an old gasser frame with decking wood which was oiled. It has since moved on and belongs to a mate.
Weber Q's have been donors of grills for a number of projects for me. The grate of a Q 200 fits a 22 inch kettle nicely. But if the sides are trimmed, it allows the use of the swing grates as well.
This picture shows how much I have actually trimmed of the original grate.
The 100 Q grill makes a good fit for a WGA.
To be able to still use the lid, I needed to square of the finger holes. It's not done in this picture but this shows the general fit.
I also made some CI grates to suit a WGA from regular grates.

I was waiting for you to show up in this thread Joe ;). Great work as always mate. Don't forget to put up that tiered grate you made from an 18.
No worries Jayce. Just for you.....
I'll need to dig up some of the photos of the grate and I'll whack them up. I built two versions, and I would like to show which I prefer and why.
Looking good! Keep 'em coming!
Awesome grate mods Joe!
Such a nice day - the fantastic light, the falling leaves and the final touches to my Mod Month Non-entry! (604 will notice the basis for my latest Mod - don't worry Matt, no SJGs were harmed!) So without further adieu, I present Genesis Joe!

OK, fair enough, but how do you keep it from tilting in the frame?

Those of you coming to the Mid Atlantic Meetup tomorrow will see it in person. (Yes, I'll be cooking on it.) This was a fun project. Gasser frames are often free for the asking and make great side tables. When 604 sent me the Crimson Joe for my e-cook entry I knew I had to work it in to something, but I wanted to be able to return it to it's original state should the need arise. It's a perfect fit for the frame, and using springs on those 3" stainless cap screws worked out great. (I have another shorty spring and an acorn nut inside.) A place to store and hang chimneys was high on my list, and the few other features just kind of evolved as I worked.
Mod Moth ends in just a couple weeks, but there's plenty of time left to mess around with your own ideas. Have fun!
Marty that is bitchin!!!!!
Great job.

@MartyG That is un-freaking-believable!!! Talk about fine craftsmanship - that's the perfect little rig!
And the Crimson looks great against the fall leaves and with the beautiful Cedar trimmed cart! Even the little OEM accessory hooks off the performer as the lid holder??.... Sweet!
Sequoia Joe FOR SURE.
Edit: Bump to top
Holy crap - my wife just came in and said "That's cool!" - you know you've done something special when....
And the handles?!? Paper towel holder?? I keep seeing more and more - amazing.
Awesome cart Marty!
Marty - great idea, great workmanship, great execution!
I really like the clean design and layout. Functional and beautiful.
Well done!
Winz
PS - an idea - if you could "pull the pin" (the bolt from the table to the SJ) that keeps the SJ from rotating around, would it allow you to rotate the SJ bowl to dump the ashes?
Winz, I had the same thought, but didn't have the exact right bits to make it happen. I got close, but ran out of gas with a bunch of other stuff going on. Once I have a little more time it will be a simple fix, which means it will stay like this for years. :D
Still need to work out a nice lighting rig. Getting dark earlier now and that will be needed. I think this will continue to evolve, trying out new ideas as they come to mind. Ideally down the road it will turn into a custom stainless cart with all the best features after they have proved themselves.
Or not...
I wonder if anyone from Weber monitors these threads? There are some possible ideas for consideration in these mods very nice
That's a sweet looking cart.
Here's something a bit different, and some may see as distasteful. But it shows the true Circle of Life!
Webers aren't only for use at the end of the food chain.....but at the beginning too!

That's an AWSOME cart 604! I'm in the process of modding my old geni 1000 frame to hold a 22 and a jumbo Joe.

Marty-
That SJ cart is AMAZING!!
Last weekend i swapped my Red SS bowl and lid with my Green Platinum bowl and lid, i wanted to have two Green SS Performers and i could have a Red Platinum.
It was real easy to swap the kettles, 4 bolts on each and done! I had to replace the bolts with new ones on the SS as they were rusty!
Red SS before:

Nice work! This is why I want a non gas assist SS performer someday in either red or blue.
Marty G that is a cool mod i like it!
Marty, that is an over the top build. It looks outstanding. It is evident, some major thought was involved.
2013 Jumbo Joe with the following upgrades:
- all stainless steel hardware
- bolt/nut "lever" added to intake vent (pictured here sporting Genuine Food Drippings)
- hinged cooking grate (not shown)
- TruTemp thermometer in Weber bezel
- lid damper "handle" (That's what Weber calls the little black insulator, and actually it was cheaper just to buy a new, year-correct "AH" lid damper with the insulator already on it so that's what I did.)
- zavod handle
(http://i1056.photobucket.com/albums/t378/dgdeckert/jjoctmod_zps92951abf.jpg)
With Weber's camp table, I've used this grill more than any other this year, but now that I've got my dad's old 18.5" ready that may change ...
That's tight, A-t-S !!!!!
Good Show!!!!

Less than a week to go, and things are heating up. I know there are more mod masters out there, and I predict a few last minute entries. I'll compile a list of all entries and post it early on the 1st for your votes. All votes must be sent to me via PM - no public voting please. Remember, we'll have a "Member's Choice" and a "Statesman Choice" category, and everyone who enters a mod will have their creation featured in the Mod gallery. (Just not all at once...)
I'm traveling to Abu Dhabi on the 1st of Nov for a week, (and I'll be looking for unusual Weber items there) so please be patient until I get a reliable connection set up to announce the outcome of the voting.
Keep the Mods coming!

i'm probably the only guy on the site that prefers a regular kettle to a performer. i've had a few and they're nice. but they're big and i don't need the table, i need table space for another kettle on my patio more than a table attached to a kettle.
wanted an avocado and a lime, and still do, but the above sage green would do in the meantime.
after freeing it from the evil clutches of too low a table and trading the cart to zapp for a street value of $10 i was left with a couple issues.
two ugly mounts welded to the bowl and no front handle.

not very becoming of a poor man's MT.
enter shower curtain rod, chopped and capped and four stainless steel bolts with locking nuts.
sorta looks like a terminator kettle but the handles are ridiculously effective.
robo-kettle? the termi-kettle?

that's Cool......what is it?
I like it GregS, not that I am going to dissemble my performer anytime soon but it is kind of a MT Ranger mod with the two handles
Very cool and useful
@GregS ! I am not sure if your kettle wants me to give it a hug or my wallet, but I would happily do either. Well done!

It works good!
A gasser SJ. That pretty much wins no matter what.
'J' code redhead wanted a bucket.
A selfless green was more than happy to donate, and then moved on to another owner.
The redhead is happy. There's a lid bale waiting in the wings.

MOD MONTH!!!!
William....that's off the hook !!!!
But why the flip grate?
I can't remember if I posted this before, but I might as well as put it in this thread. G did this mod to a 26" and I used his idea but i wanted to make a true mini ranch. I had a 26 and it never sat level, so I wanted to do this and boy oh boy is this solid. If you want the how to you can reference G's original thread. The differences I did from G's was I added the second handle on the lid, like the ranch. I also added the Ranch style ash pan. Although I may add the ash bucket back. The Ash pan is the heat shield from a fire pit. I also decided to add an ebony handle on the bowl. That way it looked more like the metal handle on the ranch...

Very nice mini ranch. It looks much more stable than the 26 on 3 legs.
Brian, I love that MOD! Looks killer!
@1buckie - If you mean the grate on top, um.. no reason.
@zavod44 - Solid build. Wow!
This project started with a need to haul more grill space in a short bed truck. My first attempt used 4 sjps. They were mounted to a central unit made from a turkey fryer burner. It required much assembly and took all of the bed space. There was no work area for food preparation. Version 2, as seen here, is based on a 6 foot stainless prep table. I have a well equipped work shop and working with metal is my hobby. We originally were going to build this with blue 22.5 kettles. In the midst of the build, we discovered the copper colored kettles at Target and decided to go with those. We had to add the ash catchers since Target only sold silvers. The table has been in use for about 2 years. These are the first pictures we've shown on the internet. My wife calls it the Steak Machine. We added magnetic knife holders to each end of the table. I turned the joints and hinges on a lathe. I probably could have incorporated the leg braces with the mounts for the arms if I had been thinking about it at the time. The table is heavy, but can be loaded into the truck by one person. I almost always have help when unloading at the cooking site.

Star that's absolutely amazing!! Would love more pics. Outstanding build.
The 26 on this platform is incredibly stable. The extra handle on the lid is really great. My wife could barely lift it and not it's very easy. I love it too. For some reason my 26 never sat correct on it's legs so this was a great solution.....

Got all kinds of various contraptions thought up but short on motivation to get them done.......involves a lot of metal cutting, drilling, electronics, fans, motors, hydraulics, body & fender work, and well, you get the general idea....... :o 8)

Nice mods!! Matt, I've considered doing that to my Crimson too. I might put a rolled edge pan on there and party like its 1985. Ken, sweet HD orange!
Just a simple mod. Didn't want to drill or do anything permanent, so went with the hose clamp method. Worked pretty good.

@SixZeroFour i really like your idea of doing "vintage modern" types of mods. especially since there is a thermo. other industries have embraced this kind of "return to your youth but modern" with their products.
Ford Thunderbird, Dodge Challenger, Chevy Camaro in automotive or Gibson and Fender in musical instruments.
however if we can't even get UK colors here from weber we'll be dust by the time they come around and give us 50's and 60's "reissues" or even "vintage modern" units.
i really like what you did with these, simple mods but very cool looking results.

LAST DAY! With 35 amazing entires to date, it's been a busy month! Thread will be closed at 5:00PM Pacific time today, so if you are holding out, better get moving!
I will post a list of all the entires tonight, and open the voting. Members can send me a PM with their favorite Mod, and I'll compile the results within the week. Voting will be open for a full week to give everyone a chance to look through the thread and chose their personal favorite. I will post the winning "Members Choice" and "Statesmen Choice" entires on Saturday, November 8th.

Hofy - that is a beautiful kettle. Left hand conversion is nice. I really like that the bucket faces outward rather than the propane tank - much more pleasing to the eye.
Great job.

@SixZeroFour - great idea!
@Craig - clean, classic - beautiful.

I really like this left handed set up! I'm not left handed but I've been thinking about how I could put two Perfomers together for 1 large center table and a kettle on each side.

Thanks Greg, I got the idea after seeing Craig's Crimson with some sweet wood handles on it... figured why not try taking it a step further and ditch the ash catcher for a good old flat rim pan :)
The Crimson and MT were switched back after the photos, but I've decided to keep the Copper permanently. I'm really happy with the way it turned out, but do plan to add some older wheels to complete the look... not sure about thumbscrews just yet ;) The golden color of the old handles and copper kettle really seem to work and the new handle assembly without the heat shield looks pretty cool in a modern minimalist sort of way. (Yes... its growing on me) You also get a bit better view at the complete "lines" of the kettle portion itself - it looks more like a little globe...

I now have another one in the works that should look really sweet :) but it may be a week or so before its complete.

I vote for adding thumbscrews. Drill/Tap/Done.
They would really compliment vintage shoes.
And they hold the legs in too 8)
