Title: Brand new 18 OTG opinions please
Post by: LightningBoldtz on August 04, 2014, 03:18:39 PM
I have coveted this grill for a while. I have thought of buying a silver and adding a pan but I still want the OTG for some reason.  I am unwilling to pay $129 though

Knowing that, I stopped @ an ACE they have 10% off any grill over $100 with an additional $25 gift card to an attached grocery store

129 - 13 - 25 gets me to about $100.  Should I do it??????

Hell yes Jeff! You've been searching and obviously want it. Don't sweat the price. Want it, buy it.

I think if it's in the budget you can pull the trigger on it. But ask yourself if this is going to sit your needs space wise. When I was searching I decided to go with a 22 as I figured I could put it on cl for a small loss and go to the 18 where the other way around was more or of pocket than I would be comfortable with.

I would save the cash and get a 22. 18 is nice but 22 is much more versatile.

I would go for it. These are very hard to find on CL. How did you get the $25 gift card?

Y'all are enablers, and yes, you never see these on craigslist.  I am a cheap-o but I may have to pull the trigger on this one.

Just get it, keep the box and if you decide to get rid of it, post it on here. I am sure plenty of people would be interested.

This is the ultimate enabler thing to say. Love it!

If you want it get one. Plenty of people here sick with Weberitis that'll grab it if you flip it.

I agree about 22 being more versatile. But I use my 18otg most of the time these days. It's just me and the wife so it's perfect for us. An 18 take less coals and heats up faster. I never thought I needed one before but now that I do...it's my whipping horse.

If I could only have 2 kettles it would be the 18otg and the 26r. I'd skip the 22 altogether.

And I'm sure LB has a trove of 22s

I didn't want to explain that but I have enough 22's to get me by.  This would be an over the top luxury, something I have had my eye on the CL for quite a while.

You could always just buy an 18" ash-can and ring from Weber, then find a decent used 18er on CL.

That's what I did:  (It was much cheaper)

(Don't worry, better handles are "on the way"....)  :-*

There's an ACE near me that has the floor model still available. Don't know if they have any boxed up or not, though.

Hey, LB. Sure, go for it! I really enjoy cooking on my 18" kettles but mine are modded to compliment my 22's (midget OTG and MT mod). You'll spend $30 for the ash catcher alone so I think it's time/$ well spent. If you decide you don't like it, just sell it off. I'm sure the few dollars you'll lose doing that will be worth of fun of using it and getting what you want. But yes, buying an 18.5" ots kettle from CL and adding a OTG pot to it would be cheaper but the heart wants what it wants. :)

They haven't made these in a couple of years, this is part of my salivating over this.  I spoke to the guys at ACE and they said it must have been in their warehouse.

I like the 18 because it fits so nicely in the back of my van, I can take it places really easy.  I have several grills I know that a 22 is more practical but I do have 3 of them (1 will be on sale due to this purchase) I also have a Kamado, Q200 and a Mini WSM Smokey Joe so I have plenty of grilling tools.  This just makes my family more diverse.  I have convinced myself to pull the trigger on the way home from work today.

Yep.  The only regret I had about my 18 OTG was getting rid of it.  Made the perfect camping rig especially when stubbified.  Enclosed ash catcher FTW!
