Nice work, L! Couldn't find the one-handled-coloured-bowl 18 like your original desire, eh?
Looks beauty! :D 8)
Handle info, please, Lawrence! Is the shield "shortened"?
Very nice !
I need a cigarette !
Nice job on the 18 1/2" MT.
Thanks, DD and Cuda Dan.

Nope, the shield is 100% intact with the same clearance as a 22.5" MT.
Nice! I'm in the process of making one.
Nice work Gumms!
That is so cool, gums!
Did you fab up your own lid bale, or did the larger one work?

It's an 18.5" weber OTP lid bale! Courtesy of Agent G (that's actually the name he prefers) lol.
I am sorry folks - I don't get this.
Was this manufactured by you Gummi or is this a genuine 18er MT? sorry if that's a noob question.
that is really cool, an 18 OTG is most certainly on my bucket list, this would be a dream come true.
I like it, you do fantastic work!
Wow, nice project PB!
So you were just able to drill the side of the handle to accept the Master Touch Therm and aluminum cover? (Thinking of a future project over here!) :o

Did you slice the top of the handle and re-form it for higher clearance?

Yep! Sliced the top, unbent it, rebent it at the taller position and drilled all the new hardware holes needed.
I can't get over how amazing this thing is Lawrence!! outstanding work

Thank you, Craig! OEM looking modifications are my favorite. I probably would do a midget version of this but I am afraid it will tip over when the lid is on the bale. It could work if I put cement in the ashpan, 3rd leg to counterbalance it.
I thought about posting this kettle in Chicago CL to watch hilarity ensue but I decided not to. That's mean. :)

My midget redhead holds the lid with clearance and height without any fear of tipping. Lid bale, not sure though..

Wow, that's gutsy! It's amazing you were able to do this with trashing the porcelain where the handle meets the lid. Any tips for that? Again, great job!
Definitely looks like it came that way & super creative idea to mod the handle too! Sweet work Gummi!

The porcelain didn't survive. But it's just black paint so I touched it up. The handle looks pretty good, almost OEM. It passes the 5 foot test no problem. 8) If one is so inclined it can be straightened, sanded, and painted but I didn't want to get too intensive with it. The thermometer hole/slot was also added to the lid. It fits like oem! The MT thermometer shield style is my favorite, accuracy be damned. ;)
I also had to craft those little tabs that keeps the handles from rotating. I used a screw that I cut down then drilled and inserted them into the wood handle. You can't tell one bit. I have some behind the scenes pics that I can post when I am not feeling lazy.

Me too, by far.
Plus .... with an accurate thermo, I think they are pretty accurate ...... I use them for my grill-baking reference point on all my MTs.
Again, well dun, gumms.
Thats really sweet! Nice job!
Very fine looking Kettle - love the grain on the lid handle.
