Post by: bthorn9435 on April 13, 2014, 01:21:33 PM
Are these bowls still available anywhere?

I believe they were only produced for a couple years, along with the black triangles, between 2010-2011ish. Last I checked, Weber has gone back to only offering raw aluminum bowls. Of course, that's easily remedied with a new bowl, a rattle can of satin high temp paint, and 10 mins.  ;)

Mine is on a 2007 Performer and it feels textured, almost like a rubber spray. Thing

My AA 22" OTG & AA 26" both have the same black ashpans. They are not at all rubberized. I'm quite certain they were sprayed or powdercoated black because there is a bit of over spray inside the pans.

I think that if someone wanted a black one they could go the spray paint route quite successfully. High quality satin spray paint would produce excellent results on a nice clean surface.

I've sprayed a few ash cans, and triangles on a few. Worked great, looks good and so far has lasted well. Think it was Krylon? Have to check in the shop. Just liked the contrasting look of the Black.

I have a rubbery surfaced black ash pot. It looks pretty good on some kettles- like the 2010 performer. I would spraypaint an ashpot if I wanted it to be black instead of silver.

Reading these two reports of a "rubbery" coating makes me think that they used a (truck) bed liner type product for a while.
I wouldn't try to imitate it though as my bright aluminum ash pan is "sticky" as it is.
I would want the harder surface that paint would yield.

I have a black ash catcher on my 2010 Performer Platinum (used a couple times before I purchased it off Kijiji (Canadian CL)).
The previous owner said when he put his together it was missing the ash catcher and Weber shipped him a black one.
