Title: Old Smokey joe and Charcoal Caddy
Post by: 1911Ron on December 03, 2012, 10:54:50 AM
Second part of the package is going to be a twofer, the SJ is an older one with wire legs w/ no other markings on the vent other than a "C" any ideas on how old?  The second item is a Charcoal caddy in great shape, any idea on when they made these?

Ron it's a 1981...I have the same one here at home. Got it for $15 bucks and it was only used one time.

That's a cool smokie and that caddy is a rare item. I would seriously use that everyday! :)

Is the caddie metal? I've seen similar things used by fireplaces. You scoop out your old ashes with that little shovel into a black metal basket and dump it another day when they are fully extinguished.

I think it is called the charcoal caddy, it was made to store and pour your charcoal into the grill.  The one I have is a plastic rubbery thing, not ment for hot coals.  It seams it was available in the 80's, but I will check some old catalogs to see what's in there.   It is not in the 1972 or 1973 catalogs.

Nice find

I thought it was metal at first, but now it looks like it's plastic. That might be a good thing since it won't rust and would keep the charcoal dry and ready for use.

It is plastic, it even says on the side not for hot coals :o  and yes it works very well :)

Here is the sort of fireplace ash holder holder I remember seeing at houses growing up.

I like that "Ash Hopper" idea for charcoal.
