Title: 18" Red MBH (work in progress)
Post by: WEBERNV on January 28, 2017, 10:38:53 AM
So, I posted a wanted ad in the member sales section looking for a 18 Avocado. No luck with the Avocado, but @shaun reached out to me regarding a 18" redhead he was willing to part with. I could not resist the opportunity to get another red so we struck a deal. Anyone contemplating making a deal with Shaun should have no reservations, he is honest and fair, and sure knows how to pack a kettle! Anyways, she is in great condition but I plan on taking my time with this RRR. Here are a few sneak peeks, I will update this as I make progress.

I have not used the old lathe for a minute, so figured it would be a good time to polish the legs.

Ash pan in good shape too.

Hopefully I will find more time to fool with it tomorrow.

Got her all cleaned up and put back together. Pretty happy with everything but the ash pan. I am jealous of all of the highly polished ash pans I have seen on here, but I plan on cooking on this one and can't justify all the time it would take me to make it perfect. Anyways, here are the pics.

And here she is being introduced to the rest of the family.

Can't wait to cook on it. The only thing left is to add a new handle once it shows up. Thanks for looking!

Thanks guys. This is my only 18", since it is just me and my wife I am hoping it will help conserve some fuel. Looks tiny compared to the 22's, can only imagine how big the 26, and ranch kettles are!

Wonderful. You really need an 18 OTG...or better yet a pair. I have a pair and they absolutely rock. No Ranch here but having a 26er on the property is grand.

Amazing job!! Everything looks great.. especially the legs.. those look like mirrors!

I got my red 18" a few months ago from another member here.. when it warms up I'll be cleaning it up but until then.. I'm using it

I keep looking at this pic though:

That's one nice looking machine.  What do you do with it aside from polishing Weber legs?

Thanks @Neil_VT00. I picked the lathe up a long time ago so that I can make parts for this old Triumph chopper I am building. Of course being the cheap guy that I am, I had to buy a junky lathe and fix it myself. I believe it was manufactured sometime in the 30's, it is a Craftsman branded Atlas. Not the best machine, but good enough for me. So far I have made new fork bushings, wheel spacers, and threaded bungs (with british threads). Here is a before pic of the lathe, on the table I made. And a pic of the old scooter.

Wow @WEBERNV, you've got quite a setup in that garage.  Beautiful Triumph!

Thanks guys, the bike is a work in progress, and the garage is more organized chaos than anything. I think that is why I love hunting down old Webers and fixing them up. It is like instant gratification once you bring one of these old cookers back to life, and the thrill of the hunt is almost the best part. And it is by far cheaper and eaiser than working on that old scooter.

I get how you feel. I used to have a '72 Triumph, then I sold it, and now my son has a '72 Plymouth Satellite  in my garage, with a parts car in my mom's garage.  I'm glad Weber's are cheaper.
