I bought my WSM 18 last year on clearance at Wally World. I loved everything about it except it wasn't mobile. Once it was set up and running if I needed to move it out of the wind, rain, etc., well forget it... let alone having to take it all apart to move it in and out of the garage. I figured I had to make it mobile.
Mine started out as a cart I bought from Harbor Freight. I put it together but mounted the top shelf upside down. After measuring multiple times I cut a 21" hole in the top.

Following the test fit I added the wood around the edges and the quick-release clamps for the feet on the base.

Then started working on the top and cut a 20" hole to overlap the rough metal edge. I used 3/4" self-tapping sheet metal screws to fasten the wood (through the metal into the wood).

Finally finished the staining and clear coat today. Added a Weber Badge I bought from another member and 2 igrill minis. Putting it to work tomorrow at 6am!

At last I'm mobile! All total I've got about $100 in it, depending on the wood used the cost could have been much higher.

This is the only picture I'm posting, put this butt on almost 14 hours ago and it's almost 9pm. I'm starving, once it's pulled, I'll be too busy eating LOL

Great bark! Was it nice to have the cart to work with?

Man, I'll say it was. It allowed me to move it around to stay out of the weather; we had snow, light rain, some wind and then sunny! I love being mobile and having the large work space! I was going to make a drop leaf on one end but I'm glad I decided to make a 1 piece top.
It was a fun project. All I need to add yet are some handles for the mid-section. Thank you all for the nice comments!

Excellent use of the cart.
Is this the one:

Great idea and one that would work for a Kettle as well.
-
Travis: Yes edges were routed a little and then sanded.
Metal Mike: That's the cart, they let me use the 20% off coupon on it so it was about $50.
G19: You could use it for a 14 or 18 but the 22 WSM would be too big I think, but, a 22 kettle should work as well.

Really nice job! Like the extra storage area underneath.

Awsome! I'm gonna copy that idea.
