During my morning coffee and CL scan, I came across a 18 WSM used only twice for forty bucks. Did I need it? Not really at this time, but if I end up trying my hand at some competitions next year it should be enough for me to get started. I texted him to confirm it was for forty and he said yeah as long as you get here before 5:30PM. Hour trip up to Denver and back later she's mine. Pumped!!!

Never pass on a $40 WSM. Never.

... Never pass on a $40 WSM. Never.
I took this advice and snagged a $30 18.5" WSM off of CL this evening, after scouring the area for one since April! I finally have a Weber smoker!
;D ;D ;D

Hah, here is the CL ad and the pic from it: http://westernmass.craigslist.org/for/3955673279.html

Not trying to hijack the thread, but didn't see the need to start a new one, especially since this isn't a kettle. I hope no one minds.
When I pulled up to the seller's house, he immediately asked me if there was gold or something in the smoker, as he had over 40 responses from all over New England, including some from folks living 2.5 hours away. I just smiled and told him they are fairly rare items to see on CL up here. Didn't want to rub it in that he mispriced it, although he said he had bought it at a tag sale for the same amount a year ago and hadn't used it.
Charcoal grate is nearly shot, but everything else should clean up nicely. Cover is MIA as well, but I'm still pretty stoked about it because I missed out on a NIB 18.5" WSM for $100 a few weeks back due to a job emergency. Sometimes things work themselves out.

That is an awesome find, specially at that price!

It's amazing the amount of responses people get on the wsms. You have to be quick and in the right place right time. Friend of mine grabbed a lightly used 22 for $125 and sold it for $250. The lady was selling her ex husbands smoker and had no idea what she had. She had five people waiting behind him and he responded and picked up within an hr of the posting.

I really want an 18" WSM from CL too, but I did get pretty lucky on the 22 I got, so I think my luck on CL is going to be run out for awhile
