Title: Hardwood lump charcoal
Post by: Chappy319 on April 12, 2020, 05:41:20 AM
I have 2 big green eggs at my home. I didn’t want to spend the money on a third, so bought a Weber Kettle for my R.V. Does anyone use hardwood lump charcoal in there’s. I’m not a fan of regular charcoal.

Hello and welcome.  Yes, many here use lump instead of briquettes.  I switched over to lump 100% a couple seasons ago and never looked back.

I’d love to see your RV cooking setup with your Weber.

I use lump most of the time.
I recommend a cut piece of EM (expanded metal) on the charcoal grate.

I second this! Helps save the coal from dropping through.

@MacEggs does this change the depth in a way that effects the baskets or SnS?

@Foster Dahlet , I do not have a SnS basket to say with 100% certainty, but this EM is thin, so I would assume, no, it does not change the depth much to affect the baskets.

started with lump and then switched primarily to kcomp due to more even/longer burn.  have some stubbs too which i think is comparable

have a few bags of RO which i use for short cooks.. steaks / burgers..
