Title: Ash Catcher Replacement
Post by: BBcue-Z on June 09, 2014, 04:18:28 PM
I have a Weber Performer and one touch gold and I was just given a Kettle one touch silver as gift. Of course I was very appreciative for the gift :)
I just have not had one of those for a long time and I remembered having to contain the ashes during windy days. So I thought of a modification to help with that. I replaced the ash catcher with a 13.5 smoker water pan. I picked up the pan for $5 from the local hardware store.

I usually fill it half way with water during cooking and that serves two purposes. 1 it extinguishes any loose ember, and 2 it prevent ashes from spreading every where during windy days.

I do the same thing with my Jumbo Joe, I use 9-inch cake pan with little water in it as well.

I hope this is not considered Blasphemy on this forum, I just thought these were practical solutions. Any one tried this before??

Absolutely not limited to only Webers, but I've seen some tremendous kettle cookups of yours also.....thanks for signing in & WELCOME !!!!!

You can put them in "Recipes" if that fits, "Grilling & BBQ" if that seems right, or even "Off Topic" if it appears to be the right thing for the equipment or cook..............

Personally, I think they should all go in "Food Pron" !!!!!

Welcome Z! Look forward to seeing your cookouts and collection! And that mod is a great idea for the OTS kettles. I've been toying with the idea myself.

Thank you ALL for the kind words and warm welcomes. I'll do my best to post some pictures soon.

1buckie,
I'm flattered that you think of me as one of your Heroes :)
I think of myself as an amateur cook, and it's so great to be recognized.
Thank you so much my friend Ken  :)

1buckie and I had a discussion about kettles on another forum and he gave me a link to this forum to look up some stuff. I've been browsing for a while and I finally decided to join. And I think I made the right decision :)

I think I'm going to use your ash catcher idea since the grill I just picked up was missing.

Great idea. It's obvious that grate minds think alike. I've been doing this for ages for grills I flip. It's easier to buy a $2.50 SS bowl than to buy from Weber.
