Title: Pulled pork overnight cook...DONE
Post by: Nate on August 30, 2014, 05:18:17 AM
17.5lbs of meat, on the kettles at 6p yesterday evening, foil wrapped at 3a and off at 5:30a. Both have a 200*+ internal temp. FtW'd for the drive to the party.

Decided to wrap because the internal temps were not where I hoped they would be.

Oh, and I couldn't resist and pulled a chuck off one of the butts for a taste test. Yum :)

Set up and ready to light the fuse.

The snake ran about 1.5 times around. We just got to our friends mom's house where the birthday party is. I completely forgot she had a Performer. So I got that cranked up and loaded with about 60 turds. More pics later.

Everyone loved the pulled pork, bbq sauces, Mac salad, slaw, turds and spinach dip. Great to know it wasn't a waste of my time. ;) . Oh, and had to grill up some dogs for the little kids. Of course my 2 1/2 year old twins ate the pulled pork.  8)

Yup, definitely a fine feed. The turd platter you see there were pulled off a little earlier than I liked...wanted a crispier bacon but people were arriving so pulled half of them off and left the other half on for more cook time. People were still munching On the few left over turds that were sitting out for 3 hours. Said, for some reason they couldn't stop eating them.

We had a lot of food left over since only half the planned people showed up.

Nice cook up. 60 turds, that's a whole heck of a lot of bacon wrapping.

Yep it was all a lot of work. One other good thing that came out of the is that I have first dibs on getting that performer. So, the house the party was at, is the mom of my wife's best friend from grade school. I forgot that she had it. I actually used that grill 5 years ago for another party. Anyways, she said she didn't use it and was thinking about getting rid of it. I said I'd take it off here hands.

Here's a funny comment/question someone asked me. "Is this kalua pork? I tastes really good. It tastes smokey. Is there liquid smoke in it???"  Is that liquid smoke...huh.  I said no, that's real smoke. I do have to agree that the flavor and texture was a lot like kalua pork. After all we were using Hawiian King rolls and had Hawaiian style Mac salad.
