Nope no noticable ash. If you get a little ash you can brush it off with a with a small brush. I did have chunks of charcoal stick to them but they come right off. The steaks tasted so good you would never notice any ash. Besides when your cookin in mother natures kitchen sometimes you get more than you expected.

Looks real good! I saw Steven Raichlen do that technique on an RK in a YouTube vid. I want to try this.

I should try that some day. I roast peppers and eggplant directly on the coals and steaks seem like a natural. It's actually not as hot as you might think because the steaks tend to smother the coals a bit. (I've seen it done on Primal Grill.)

A little ash never hurt anyone anyway. When I was a kid ISTR that one of the books suggested using a little ash from the fire to season food.

It also aids digestion in a very magical way, esp. if you're not careful with the overall quantity of ash................ 8)

Thanks guys I appreciate the complements.

Its easy to do if you have any sense of fire management. Just use one layer of coals and put out any flare ups with the lid. Try it you'll do fine!

Mac Eggs welcome to WKC!
