Title: Are green MBH really that rare?
Post by: stubblebum on April 17, 2016, 07:07:42 PM
I did a search and found some posts stating there were only a few known examples out there. Anyway, this happened this morning. B code MBH - As seen in the craigslist ad yesterday. A quick look over revealed A quarter sized ding on lid, a little rim rash, some rust at base of lid handle, and out of shape lower vents. Sorry but I won't be able to inspect any further, take any more pictures, or tell the story because I have to finish my taxes. They have become a nightmare trying to find quarterly records for some stock that I have had in a DRIP for 25 years and entering that data after the company was involved in a cash to boot merger.

Wow. Yes they're quite rare.  I think we've seen 3, not including yours.

That kettle could be your next long term investment.

Do you think it will work out for me  if I bought into it for $20, ten gallons of diesel @$2.09 per gallon, and three hours drive time?

I am hoping for it to pay me back with dividends of years of cooking memories.

That sounds like the best investment ever :)

Can't wait to see it in action.

Nice grab!  I was next on the list if you didn't make it.  I knew that one was a rare one, but I didn't know there were only a few out there. Congratulations!!!

Whoa! Congratulations on the find, @stubblebum ! Not many in the club or out in the wild, I've been looking for one for a long time myself. I look forward to seeing more of this cooker in action.

@stubblebum - did you get the grill?  I saw the CL ad too, but 4hrs drive was a bit too far for me.  Post up pictures if you got it.

I got it but it is still in back seat of pickup truck. Further details and pictures will have to wait as I still have to finish my taxes. Taking it out and cleaning it up will be my reward for finishing them.

I thought I've seen a couple 18.5 green MBH. They are in a class by themselves. I'd like to get one of those.

I have had 3 Green MBH's and a few Silvers and Golds. I'm just not that fond of them. Most were free or cheap and my problem was finding a suitable high temp paint to cover up any dings that they had.

Green Eggs is how I like mine.

I think the most I ever got for a greenie one was $60.

The 22 is probably one of the few I still want. Elusive little guys...

Gonna have to wait on pictures. Yesterday was beautiful sunny day. It would have been great day for taking pictures. Unfortunately got taxes done after dark. Today it is raining and might be overcast at least for the next few days.

I have to say that I am surprised that the green MBHs are more elusive than even the blue ones. But then again, only 3-4 years ago the blue ones seemed scarce. So maybe before long the greens will come out of the woodwork. I can only hope.

Also the early dark greens (1978-early 90s) appear to be slightly brighter than the newer ones (after 2000).

It was a little bit of a trip but I had a few things to do along the way. There were a bunch of geese headed north, the turkeys were out strutting everywhere, and I stopped to check out the sturgeon run  in Shawano. The run was just starting. I went back to Shawano today and there were fish everywhere. Search for Wolf River Cams and look at the Shawano camera. There were still sturgeon on camera constantly a few hours ago when I checked.

Geez, I never  knew you were from Green Bay @stubblebum.  I picked a few nice grills up your way.  I didn't think there were any members between me in Appleton, up to Rhinelander where @tb6844 resides.

Good to know!  Again great pick-up!

I'm a better reader/lurker than poster, as you can probably tell by how long it is taking me to post some pictures.

The pictures probably do a better job explaining the condition than I would. Besides what you see I need to reattach one of the wheels. The piece holding it either fell off in my truck and I can't find it, or it was being held on by a piece of rolled up electrical tape that I did find. Handles are all solid. Obviously the lid handle took a good impact at some point. I don't think there will be any attempt to bend it back for fear of what may happen, especially in end near the vent.
