Post by: Hogsy on September 30, 2016, 01:20:08 PM
Well the brief was to start cutting up kettles, hope no one is offended by this😀
This red head was pretty beat and has no lid so time to make it functional again
Materials- 1 kettle bowl, expanded mesh, SS bolts and some stainless steel. All materials were sourced from the grave yard out back
Kettle bowl marked and ready to be cut

These baskets fit and work well with my previous mod the Ranch drip tray

What to do with the rest of the kettle? Maybe some sort or ranch vortex....

Great idea! You know, I've never seen a ranch in person yet. Those baskets are freakin enormous! Good job man! Now, you're still going to burn in hell for the use of the red!! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I’m aware this thread is four years old. Hogsy was my inspiration for fabricating my own char baskets for a Ranch Roti. I’ll piggyback on his thread and ideas, instead of starting a new thread.

I’m not a metal fabricator, just a guy with an angle grinder and a few cut off wheels.

A 22” kettle from the boneyard was used to build charcoal baskets. Stainless steel side walls and expanded metal was sourced from my employer’s small maintenance department scrap pile.

Cost of build: $6 for two cutoff wheels and $7 on stainless steel ¼-20 hardware. Grand total of $13, compared to $300 for two SnS XLs.

Thanks @Hogsy and @Golly

Cheers

Love ya work @AZ2FL !
Here’s a couple other mods I did to my 22 roti while you are in the mood. I attached the two handles from the donor kettle bowl to the roti. Makes it easier to carry around or remove from kettle and you don’t get get greasy hands every time you pick up the roti ring. I just used some small nuts and bolts to attach the handles. If you attach the handles at the same height as the mount for the roti motor and add two more on the opposite side to the motor you’ve created brackets to hold another grate, giving yourself two grates heights to cook on. Here’s a couple pics to explain it better.

Thanks
Looks simple enough, I'll have to mod my CB 22" roti ring.

Cheers
