New to the forum and Weber kettles. Just saw this "Red 22" excellent cond" come through craigslist nearby for $50. I don't know anything about vintage grills (or even if this is one), but in reading all your posts, I'm getting interested. I haven't bought it yet. Trying to learn more about it since I know nothing. I will ask for a pic of the kid vent. Anything else I should ask for more clear pics on?

If its close to you, just go see it.
Look at the leg sockets,inside of bowl, and handles for rust.
Looks like a nice score. Now go get it.

If your still home, Weberitis hasn't set in yet.

It's value is that which someone is willing to pay.
If your looking to make money on it, well this might not be the grill.
Then again you never know.
Its a 1989 One Touch Red 22.5" grill.
What else do you want to know?

I'm not looking to make money. Kinda think it would be nice to clean it up and make it shine as a cool little project. But don't have room to keep it so I'd put it in someone's hands after.
The guy sent me these 3 pics back and said: "Just a couple small chips in paint with very little survace rust in those spots"

value is up to the person. Here's the basics...It's a Weber, discontinued RED color in decent shape at a price that can be played with. also check the one touch cleaning system when your there. They're easy to replace but better if they're in working order. GL....go now. LOL

I remember getting my first red 22. I drove 50min to get it. Its a "F" code OTK One week later I drove 70 min to pick up a barn find red 22 OTP. After that I was diagnosed with full blown weberits. [emoji1]

The K stamp on the lid vent is the date code, each letter corresponds to a certain year (it gets more complicated on super old and really new kettles), but generally the letters are stamped oriented in line with the big "Weber". For some reasons these "K"s are crooked, so it makes em kinda...I don't know, more special
You'll also hear this model kettle referred to as the OTS, or One Touch Silver. That refers to the three blade cleaning system. They can be replaced if it's reached out, costs about $15. Super easy to do, but it could be a bargaining chip.
Most importantly, it's a REDHEAD! They change color when they get hot, and it's awesome.
So go get this one, make room by getting rid of whatever grill you already got, fall in love while making delicious food simply, the covered way. Impress your friends and family, and then make more room as the Weberitus will have already set in.

It changes color when its hot?? Cool! I picked up my first redhead recently and haven't cleaned it up yet. I'll be sure to take pictures before/after clean up and when it's hot!

All I know is your gonn a have a blast. Collecting, selling and trading kettles is kind of a weird hobby to most but it's fun as hell cuz you never know what may pop up in your area

Or when it gets to the point that your friends txt you and say. "Just dropped off something you may like... Its on your patio". And here it was a black EE code SSP. She was cleaned up and restored and cooks alike a new kettle.
