I know there's probably a thread out there about restoring the wheels without hurting the rubber. Advice from you guys would be gratefully useful thanks in advance

You can soak those wheels in Evapo-rust. The rust will go away and what paint that is still there will be left behind. The rubber should be unharmed. I soaked a couple of sets for a few days and the rubber was fine. Depending on how bad they are, you can spray them with matte or semi gloss clear coat or repaint them completely. I have done a few both ways. I kinda prefer the look of the matte clear over what remains after soaking.
