Title: New and Old JJ Grate Question?
Post by: Hogsy on June 16, 2013, 08:33:34 PM
Picked up an old JJ the other week, its really faded and looks like the old faded black kettles 8)
The cooking grate is shot in it, and I was disappointed to find the 18 cooking grate doesn't fit cause I've got an 18 hinged grate I was hoping to use.
Does anyone know if the new JJ cooking grate fits the old JJ?

My first JJ had a new 18.5" standard kettle grate in it, and it did not fit (fell into the bowl).

My second JJ had the correct grate and it measured 0.25" larger across the diameter compared to the standard 18.5 kettle grate.

Good news is I think the old JJ grates can be ordered from Weber.

I have read where the new JJ uses the standard 18.5 diameter kettle grate and can even support the Cracort CI grate.

Hope this helps.

I don't think it does Hogsy since they are interchangeable with the regular 18" grate.  However, I believe Alfonso is correct.  You can order a new grate for the old style JJ direct from Weber.

Would it be possible to save the old one? I would like to see how faded it is.

Whoa that thing is sweet! Is it possible that the JJ grate is the same size as the 22" Charcoal grate or 18.5" WSM lower grate?
