I must be totally off my game......  I got two spatchcocked chicken on my 22....  They are not big at all, one is they are both under four pounds.

Used about 3/4 chimney..... On one side.  Birds next to each other legs pointing towards the heat.  Bottom vents open all the way, top vent halfway.  Lid therm is only at 250.....  I wanted to cook much hotter, more like 325-350.

I opened the top vent all the way, and sort of cocked the lid to one side so it's not closed all the way.

Anything else I can do?   These were supposed to be done a long time ago...ugh.

Wish I saw your post earlier, I hope your chickens turned out okay though. The same thing happened to me when I needed to cook up food for 120 people, I added another load of fully lit charcoal and that did the trick for me. How did the cook go?

It happens. I trust they still turned out great. :)

Heyjude

Sometimes ypu get great heat and sometimes it seems like the coals never get hot.. It happens.
You just have to watch it and tweak it as is goes.. Most likely add more fuel.
I think that the outside temp and humidity along with the condition of the briquettes has a lot to do with it.
Charcoal will absorb moisture from the air, so keeping bags closed will help a lot.
My 2 sense..
I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..

It worked out.   I opened all the vents all the way.....and cocked the lid a bit.... I was up to 350 in no time.

And yes outside temp has changed around here .....about 20 degrees lower, so I didn't factor that in.

Just gotta keep at it more.....   :P :P :P

Oh and sorry for the silly female freaking out.... ;) ;) ;) .
