OK folks... here it is. But a warning to you Performer fans, you may want to be sitting for this one. The whole process this morning was awesome and I hope the pictures can articulate how cool it was to open the box and conveys my own excitement as I found one treasure after another in the box...

Here's the box

Then this morning I finally got to open it. It had that new grill smell.

But then I saw this and was like what the hell!...it looked like some type of alien space fungus...so I packed it back up and threw out the whole grill....nah, just kidding...a little SOS and off it came. so far the only blemish.

There it is..

Totally sending this in today

This was in the charbin to my surprise. The grill came with its own cover in addition to the one I got from the seller

awesomeness... 8)

here's the 2 boxes side by side. Guess which one is original.

Bottoms up

The vent is telling us O...1992-1993 at least...

All the parts were in mint condition, every piece of steel had it's plastic covering in place, everything thing else still had a light coat of oil still on it and was wrapped in plastic.

The table was blinding me when the sun hit it

So this not gonna work. Too bad, the tank looks like it's perfectly made to sit in the frame. It's stamped Manchester on the side. I'm going to look up the company to see what they can do. I want to keep and use the original.

First time in the sun. It is the most perfect grilling weather day here in NY...

There it is, all ready to go.

Her new home. I think it fits perfectly with my Genesis. I love that they both came out around the same year. It's too perfect...

My first Genesis restoration. You never forget your first...I was able to sell 3 of my refurbed gassers this week, so I had a little extra scratch to get this SS. It just worked out great that I was able to pull it all off.

So now the other question. Do I leave the original cover in the box and use the new one?

Well that was a fun morning, glad I could share it with you all. Now I can go cook something on it for dinner...or maybe I just look at it for the next 24 hours before I christen it...

BTW, interesting bail on the tank. Can you show us how that is fitted to the bracket under the SS lid? My original tank did not have that feature.

Amazing. Thank you so much for sharing. I assume that the original propane tanks did not come pre-filled.  You may be able to change the fitting on the original to get it refilled. A worker at one of my local Ace's told me I could do that & they would refill it for me...

Regarding the cover... which one is sturdier? Keep that one. Offer the other for sale & get some of your $ back. The older SS Performer covers are not cheap.

That is so cool.  Thanks for sharing all of these photos.  And wonderful that it gets to join your Genesis of the same year (nice resto on that one, too!).

Don't be so quick to dismiss that tank as a viable option.  I think I see the fitting attached to the regulator hose, so you should be able to use some thread sealant and attach it.  I get original tanks like that filled all the time, and the guy who filled mine the other day confirmed that they all have the OPD feature.  Tanks do expire after a certain number of years, but yours hasn't been in any weather or under any pressure for all of these years.

I'm also curious about that bale on the tank...  haven't seen one of those on Performers back to 1995.

Holy crap that's awesome! great find!
What they said!  ;D

A good propane shop will be able to switch out your valve on that tank.
