I bought a 9" lodge skillet the other day with the intent of making cornbread. Did the first batch in the oven. It was good, but not quite sweet enough. Did another batch today with a little more sugar, this time on the kettle. It was great.

What else do you guys make on your kettles with CI? I'm thinking I need a small Dutch oven now for beans and such. Thoughts...

That is some great looking cornbread!  I have yet to try that in the kettle.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to using CI in the kettle. I like trying different things.
Don't be afraid to get creative and think outside the box.  One tip ... keep some weld gloves handy.  :D ;) ;)

I showed this thread to my wife and she said "looks like we need a bigger skillet"! I said we better get a griddle while we're at it...she agreed.

Keep the ideas coming. Those potatoes and beans look great.

A better question is: what can't you cook with cast iron?  :)

With a dutch oven, a skillet, and a griddle, you can cook anything from pineapple upside down cake to stir fried on a Weber.

Lodge has good CI recipes at http://www.lodgemfg.com/recipes

John Ragsdale's Dutch Oven cookbook is a great start.

I've fried fresh trout and even cooked beignets in my DO but, would caution against using hot oil over a kettle.   :o

I know you can do a deep dish pizza in CI on the kettle.

People FLIP over this:  http://www.weber.com/recipes/dessert/grilled-pineapple-upside-down-cake

...and I think we can all agree that the 'for gas grills only' prohibition should be taken as a personal challenge.  ;-)

I'm also getting started with Dutch Oven cooking (well, technically mine is a 'camp oven' since it has legs and a rimmed lid).  Chili, pepper stout beef, carnitas-style country ribs, barbacoa braised beef, etc. etc.

You really might want to think about beefing up your tagline with this Mike............. 8)
