SSP ASH CATCHER INFO NEEDED
« on: July 14, 2022, 01:34:14 AM »
Does anyone know what the model # is for this old style ash catcher assembly?
These were available on the SSP and the Master Touch.

Are these obsolete now or still available.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure of the model number, I can look in my manual and see, but definitely obsolete.
Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

I have done a fair amount of searching without any luck.  I am hoping someone
may know of something I have missed.

Perhaps a call to Weber customer service?

michaelmilitello, I appreciate the advice, but I'd rather take a kick to the nuts
than call them for any type of help on a 20+ year old grill.  In prior experiences
they have been worthless with anything of this age.
I have however gone to the Weber schematic which seems to be the same thing
that they use.

https://www.weber.com/US/en/help/schematics/browse/821001/

It shows the older style ash catcher, but uses the newer style model number.
It shows the cross bar that holds the catcher as part# 22, but #22 is not even listed
on the parts chart.  There are many other parts that have been deleted from the
list also.   I am of the opinion that this part is simply a unicorn at this point.

I tried ereplacementparts.com and they also reference the new number.

SSP ASH CATCHER INFO NEEDED

I went down the rabbit hole this morning searching the forum, Weber schematics and parts web sites.

There are a number of there older style twist in ash catchers.  The original SSP and MT had the style like Dave is trying to identify with the plate attached with rivets and mounts with the bar and thumb screw sweeps.  This is the original bowl style ash catcher.

This post has good picts of all of these early styles.
How many different styles of ash catchers https://weberkettleclub.com/forums/index.php?topic=7988

For the 2nd Gen Performer, One Touch Platinum and the early non-flat top 2008 OT 26 the ash catcher assembly would be Weber #85531 with the black bowl.  #90466 for ring only and #63093 for black bowl.  These may have been used for some grills approx 2005-2011.   This style would be the first using the leg socket tabs to attach the ash catcher ring.

Change to an all aluminum/silver ash catcher assembly in 2012 Weber #63093.  I believe these were the last version of the twist in bowl.  The 3 parts making up the assembly are #85527 ring, #85531 bowl and #63038 handle.  Weber #63092 for the 18” assembly version.

2015 was the change over to the squeeze style ash catcher handle.  Weber #65143.  This is still the current part sold on the Weber site as a replacement part for all grills.  Also still the current ash catcher assembly for the current 2022 Original Kettle Premium 26” only.

The current version, I believe starting in 2019, has small holes added to the ring to act as indicators for use with bowls with the P style bowl vents.

Weber #69383 w/silver bowl used on black Original Kettle Premiums 22”, black MT, 70th ed and current Performers.
Weber #67594 w/black bowl used on the red LE, Summit Charcoal/Kamado and colored MT.

So we still need to identify a part # for the Gen 1 style ash catcher in Dave’s picts.  Correct me if I have anything wrong.

Not sure if this is the complete assembly or not. But this is a 1999 Weber price list that @Cellar2ful shared in another thread.
On page 10 of the PDF, it lists the replacement ash catcher for the MT and Performer as 60801.

@Jburns, can you help with this? #uwork4weber

So that old version with the ash catcher bar was discontinued back around 1999 to 2000, and I'm afraid the old part numbers were purged from the system once we ran our stock of remaining replacement parts around 15 years ago. Since then, our best recommendation has been to replace the entire bowl so you can transition to the current ash catcher/one-touch cleaning system version. Sorry, I know that's probably not a super helpful answer, but it should provide insight into the current situation. #IworkforWeber

60801 is probably the correct part, but we discontinued it and haven't had stock for quite some time, and there are no plans to get more of them.
