Power tools and steaks
« on: July 01, 2021, 06:12:13 PM »
I know I’m not the first to do this but it sounds like fun.  Walmart has tomahawk ribeyes in my area now.  Not too pricey.  I’m going hang this guy in my wsm tomorrow for dinner.  Light trim and hit with kosher salt tonight.  Drilled my hole for the gateway hook.  Should be [emoji1303] good.

I’m looking forward to seeing your end results. It’s should be tasty. What size WSM are you using to cook the meat?

My wife likes her steaks well done. I like mine medium rare, so I’ve never cooked a tomahawk. Maybe the next party I host, I’ll cook one.

Cheers

I have the 18 wsm with the gateway rib hanger.

My wife is a well done steak gal, too.  Nobody’s perfect, right?   [emoji23].  I’ll share with my son.   I’ve nurtured him into med rare carnivore for which I am proud.

Looking forward to seeing this one. Luckily my whole family likes medium rare.

One of my friends wives only eats 2” thick well done filet lol. I always start her steak way before everyone else’s and I still end up only getting it a little past medium. I just can’t bring myself to cook it well done.

How was the smoke content?  I’ve only seen these seared over high heat or even laid directly on red hot lump - caveman style.

I used a very small hunk of apple.   You could tell it was there but not overwhelming.   The crust was amazing.  I used this rub recipe.

Ran the cooker 275-300.
