cold rain on a hot red head

How geeky is this?

Yesterday I had my cajun bandit kettle fired up pretty hot (far too hot for a kettle to handle).

The old red heads, as you know, get darker when they're hot.
It started raining. The cold rain was changing the color of the hot kettle whenever a rain drop would land.

The tiny circles of lighter red would immediately change back to the dark red. In person, it looks liked it was raining blood. It was badass.
I sat watching it for about 10 minutes before i decided to get video. By then the surface wasn't as dark as it originally was - but you can still see it in the video.

here's a shot showing how hot the grill was before the rain, and how drastic the color change really is (it looked a lot darker in person, camera exposure is off)

Wow, very cool very neat phenonemom.
Wanted: 18" Platinum any color will work
This is my Kettle there are many like it but this one is mine......

The title of your post got me thinking of Christina Hendricks (Joan from Mad Men) getting all rained on and I got excited!  ;D . But back to the redhead at hand, that is pretty cool! I've seen my 18.5 do that, but not my 22.5 (not yet any way).  Thanks for posting the vid.

That's a cool video Troy! It's kind of a Weber phenomenon. ???

I would like to see a picture of your CB smoker one day Troy.

Troy

this is my smoker (with the cajun bandit stacker on top too)

Troy

and here's all of my red webers

i'm ashamed that the lid on the smoker wasn't on all the way

That is a cool effect.  I may have to heat up the red head for the next rain storm.  The redhead collection looks hot, too.

Craig

Troy, thats an awesome set of redheads! I'm digging that old 26"!

Craig

Troy

Thanks! That red 26 was one HELL of a restoration. It still needs work too :\

Troy awesome collection! I'm learning evrery day from this awesome sight I stumbled on.(via google) My bride now thinks I'm nuts. Bought the Blue S/S on Saterday. Thanks for tip! No propane start, but nice condition. H one touch was not fun installing...

Troy

yeah that H clip system is easier with 2 people.

glad that blue performer worked out!

I think it's time you got all your grills together for a photo!

glrasmussen

My collection is Just getting started. This sight has me exited! H clip... could not use lower H washer, ash bucket bracket negated the clearance needed.

Troy

oh! if you're using the ash bucket bracket, you probably need the other style of one-touch system - the one with the hex nut and the thumb screw.

or you can upgrade to the newer style of ash bucket/ring.

did you get the H-style one-touch system to fit in there properly with the bracket??

glrasmussen

Got it to work. The bracket is the same thickness as the H clip washer. The hardware store only had this option. The handle stays in place,
but is not as secure as I would like.(turns a bit) But, after fight with the thumb nut version removal, this will be a piece a cake to remove. When dismantling the old one, thumb nut twisted off and handle broke at the nut. Had to drill the darned thing out. Does anyone know where I can locate a new ash bucket handle? This one is rusted beyond belief.
