So I've been looking on the net for temp probe ideas for my 22 and 26. I wasn't thrilled what I was seeing. The nylon factory one for the wsm could be damaged by a high heat cook plus it needs a fairly large hole. Other ideas cut a notch in kettle and lid, no thanks. An other one protruded inside too much. The space between the grate and top of kettle on the 26er is less than the 22. So I made one using a steel 3/8x1/4 bushing, locked in place with 3/8 conduit lock nuts. A tapered cork plug with a notch cut in for wires. When not using probes a 1/4 plug goes in the bushing. I'm thinking this is THE ONE!!

If you don't want to use a cork another member Jules V has stated that you can plug the port hole with tinfoil when air tight is necessary.

Cool DIY probe port.

Stainless cable glands are very affordable and comes in variety of sizes. Just remove the plastic/silicon inserts.

Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Wife: Let me guess... you want to grill again

Thanks! I used the port for Sunday dinner, smoked a chuck roast for a couple of hours then the potatoes, onions and carrots went into the pool with the roast. Tasty! The family is liking this new hobby of mine!

I swear, when I score a great deal on a 26" I'll stop buying grills... So often.
