I grabbed a Performer Silver kettle a few years back. It was my workhorse, until my collection rapidly expanded. Love the grate height, folding metal table, and compact footprint. Don’t care for the taco handle or the cheap looking hubcaps + wish Weber made it in something other than black. Had an idea, but needed to get my hands on a blue 22” OTP to make it happen. Luckily, I was able to acquire a really nice one in a trade deal. Simple, easy kettle swap. However, figuring out the best looking option for wheels wasn’t as simple. This is the “final” product:
These are the original three ideas I came up with for the wheels:
Between my wife, daughters, and a few fellas there was no clear choice. That’s when I recalled having a weathered insert for the 8” wheel, so I came up with this:
Bummed a little that the Weber script doesn’t “pop” like in my mock-up:
The insert doesn’t set tight to the wheel like the whitewall style. I’ll pull the inserts, at a later date, and epoxy a painted piece of plastic to the backside of it to get the desired look.
