Questions On 18 OTS To MT Upgrade

I plan to upgrade an 18 OTS to a Mastertouch.

I have a lid bale from an 18 OTP.

Plan to order a newer style 18 ash catcher assembly here- https://amzn.to/2CN2yxw

First Question- Does the 18 ash catcher assembly allow enough air to get a decent sear?  I just cant let hot coals fall down into a dish and possibly blow around on an old wooden fish pier so I need to use an ash catcher.

If I plan to use charcoal baskets or make a homemade slow n sear out of some used charcoal baskets what grill grate would you recommend?

Weber flip up grates for an 18?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I would go with killa grilla flip up for your 18, I don't believe the ash catcher will diminish air flow, you will never have to replace the killa grate, even in your salty air environment
Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Thanks Joe, what do most people use for charcoal basket setups on an 18?

Mr.CPHo

I really like the SS SnS basket for the 18".

I 2nd the SnS charcoal
basket. I use it most every cook. Adrenaline doesn't make the SS version anymore. I picked one up when they were 1st released. Weber also has an 18.5 SS grate, part number 7434. Not as beefy as the Killa Grilla, both have flip up sides.

It's not just a grill, it's a WEBER

Mr.CPHo

I'm patiently waiting for Weber to bring the SS 18" GBS grate to our shores.  That's the only thing my mini "Master-touch" is lacking.

Well so far it's a OTS to OTG.

I'm skrt to drill the holes for the 18" lid bale.

Do it! It's totally painless.

Very nice upgrades, Captjoe06.

You could add an 18" HC IAP for more protection against hot coals dropping down onto your dock, it won't interfere with the sweepers.
