I’m excited about this. I’ve been thinking about covering my area for a long time. Ive decided to use 4x4 treated posts, 2x6 cedar beams, 2x4 cedar rafters, 1x4 cedar horizontal slats to anchor the metal roofing and a 1x4 cedar horizontal privacy wall in the back. The picture is looking towards my neighbor. The roof will have a 1/12 pitch towards the neighbor and will co under the existing overhang by a foot. All sides of the the roof will have a 1’ over hang. It’s 8’ between posts but with the overhang will be 10x10 under roof. Not huge but along with the private wall will give a lot of shade and cover from the rain and snow. I wanted to cover the entire area but the wife didn’t want to see a roof out of her kitchen window so that’s why it’s only half the area. It will basically look like a cedar pergola with a slight pitch and metal roof. I have nine feet to the existing gutter so my front beam will still be above 8’. I really struggled with ideas. What do you guys think? Does that sound like it will work?
Three posts are in and I’m anchoring one to the concrete. It will not be attached to the house. My overhang is funky so I didn’t want to get into that. I’ll build a bar to incorporate the post on the concrete.
