Pork Butt for Pulled Pork
« on: May 07, 2018, 06:20:39 PM »
So I decided to try out my Thermoworks Smoke for the first time on a 9lb. butt.
Thanks to @Mike in Roseville for pushing me in this direction of thermometers.
All in all I'm very happy with the performance and functionality of the unit.
12 hours smoke on Green Gen 2 Performer. Can't wait to try it again.
Rubbed the night before.

Finished temperature. Wrapped in foil and towel and placed in a cooler to rest for an hour

Pulled and ready to eat. it didn't last long

The smoke is a grate tool, the butt looks good too!
Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

... I don't know why but seeing the Smoke makes me really want to get one

For me, the ease of use, smart design and quality is easily worth the double cost of the Maverick. And this year they also come in lots of colors.

When I finally unboxed mine the other day, I pulled out the battery stops, plugged in the probes and was using it. Didn't even read the instructions until later. Programming is intuitive, not fussy. They're auto paired. The main unit has a strong magnet on the back, so I "store" mine on the side of the fridge and hang the remote from it. Looking forward to getting my Gateway this week.

The only annoyance in the software for me is a minor one. When the remote alarm goes off and you silence it, the main unit's alarm is still going until you go to it and silence it. I guess the comm is only one-way.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch
