Finished the '73 Texan Resto!
« on: April 16, 2018, 08:31:50 AM »
Hey All!

This is a one-owner 73 that has been in our family from the beginning.  I posted a few months ago about digging into a resto and I finally found time to get it done!  Using the tips and tricks from WKC, I brought him back to life and I am quite happy.  I even got the gorgeous handle from the link here and it is the crowning piece to the project!

Legs, ash pan, bowl, lid and wheels where all worked on.

Tex lives on and will be in the cook rotation now.

Cheers All!

Beautiful, very nicely done
Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Really nice job on the restoration. Looks like NOS. Love the fact you respected it as a family heirloom. What did you use to restore the black color on faded lid and bowl?  Pam?

Make sure to add your before and after photos to this thread.

Thanks for the link - I will post there as well for reference.  The bowl and lid are still faded and gray BUT they are super clean now.  That brought back some of the color.  Somehow there are stains under the finish... if that makes sense.  The discolorations you see in the one pre-resto photo are still there but they have been minimized.  The Pam trick was used as well.  I know it's not permanent but it will help to keep the finish from drying out.  It is definitely a weathered warrior but looks so much better than before.  Thanks for your input!
