Check this out. Here is an old promotional film extolling the virtues of a backyard bbq in the 1950's. The first grill shown is a black Weber MLH. The kettle appears to be brand new and being used for the first time. The film is only about 3 minutes long. Here it is..

This is the original Weber kettle. The most powerful bbq grill in the world and can blow your taste-buds clean off! So, you have to ask yourself one question: "Do you feel hungry? Well, do you punk?"

How do they BBQ hamburger over charcoal and not have any smoke?  Now the steak cook looks real.  I don't think he poked the steak enough with the fork though.  Let's cut it on the grill to see how well it's cooked.  I remember my Dad and Uncle doing the same thing at family BBQ's back in the early 60's.

Those are "special" no smoke burgers... :-)

Steaks look good tho...
Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.

The second guy was cooking on the type of grill we had growing up.  Flare up were a constant problem.  He was a "Genius" to solve that problem with that load of steaks.

Thanks @ramsfan for the look back ! ! !

I love the long handle salt and pepper shakers the woman was using to season the burgers.

You can still buy that long handled salt/pepper shaker. I saw them at my local Home Depot just the other day. I think it was made by Brinkmann? One side of the shaker is salt and then you flip it over and the other side dispenses pepper. It's a two sided device.
