I melted a plastic roller making pizza.  I got some 5/8" OD 1/8" wall aluminum tube from eBay for $10. Cut to length of rollers and installed.

They seem to roll OK, I wonder if the aluminum will chew up my lid rim?

Been using ss for awhile now and really don't  see any any damage to the lid  Just have to remember to be more gentle while placing tbe lid on the roller. Might try copper next time since it's much more softer tban the  ss.

I've been using mine without rollers and I haven't noticed any issues.
My bale also lost its nuts.

I think aluminum should be fine. It is softer than the lid and softer than SS.
If your really concerned about protection then the next choice would be the wooden ones from Zavod44.

Oooh, what does Zavod44 charge for a pair of wood rollers?
