Igrill 3 therm question....

Not sure if any of you guys know for sure.....

I know the igrill3 was designed for use with the Genesis II grill.... But, will it work as a stand alone device that can be used with a kettle grill?

I only ask because my local Ace hardware has them on sale for 50 bucks each.
