Duke was kind enough to set me up with his 50s style ash pan triangle that he made from scratch and some metal wheels.... the ash tray fits perfectly on a standard 22.5 triangle. It instantly inspired me to have a little more fun with my 18.5 red. I bought some sheet metal and a Wiss metal bending tool and cut a second triangle for an 18.5. I don't think mine turned out as good as Duke's 22 pan but it fits. I did cheat and used a modern ash clip to hold it into place. So right now my mid 60s 18.5 Easterner looks like it went on a time travel trip back to 1956 and it had to change clothes to blend in...minus the wood handle.  ;)  A big thanks to Duke for the 22 pan, wheels and the sweet side table.

Here's the 22.5 Triangle pan test fitted on my red 22.5, some of you may recognize the ash pan from the Duke's "Red Rat" which was the inspiration for the work done to the 18.5 today. See 1st annual Show and shine thread for Dukes kettle. I plan to use this pan on an upcoming 22 project.

Here it is next to my 18.5, now masquerading as "Red Rat Junior" (I removed the original legs and wheels on the 18 and put them away for now)

The side table is a perfect match in color to the lid handle.

Golly

That is the best looking grill I've ever seen
O so fn sweet
GET ON THAT SHIT
WONT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER

Duke

That is a work of art!  :o  The table is roomy isn't it? I'm glad everything went to good use. It was the least I could do for such a great tagline. 8)

BUMP!

Here's the 22.5 black one time OTS turned "Mastergold". It now has a longer front leg cut from stock aluminum I bought at the hardware store, some 8" wheels, not sure I'll keep them blue yet, the lid bale, thermometer, and some fireplace replacement handles..... these handles really look orange in finish and are nowhere near the quality of Brian's handles  :-[ , I got them to try them out on this kettle to interpret what wood handles might look like on a kettle today if Weber still did wood handles on everything. This kettle is slowly, but surely becoming a European style kettle. I plan to get the longer rear legs and use my true European front leg which believe it or not is taller than the custom front leg I cut now. Pardon my hose clamps..... I still have the broken tabbed ring on this one, oh and the ash can..... even funnier story, this is the ash can that was originally black and I spent 3 days scrapping and stripping to silver......only to find out the next year that Weber made silver cans again, so I painted this one back to black since I like black cans with black kettles.  ::)

These modern "woodies" almost look plastic made to look wood from certain angles.  :-\

Thanks for looking!  :)

MacEggs

Nice work, Craig! I don't mind that colour of handle. It might grow on ya, eh?  :D
Q: How do you know something is bull$h!t?
A: When you are not allowed to question it.

G$

Yes, very nice work. Very nice.

I agree with you on those handles, they really are weird. Bamboo I think.  I think they look best on the black kettles though - they clash with everything else, and look ok with the black.   I have some for some projects I am working, so i know what you mean when you call them "plastic-ey".  ONeals are better by leaps and bounds.

You don't happen to have the metal brackets those handles may have come with do you?

glrasmussen

Very nice! I want to rat rod a grill!

G

G$-you can buy the brackets with the handles here:
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/handle-fireplace-p-1475698.html

If you just need the brackets, I have some that came off a donor OTS I can send you.

Shoot...almost forgot to give Craig a kudos on the "Mastergold".  Nice work.

G$

Yeah stu, i have bough some fireblace handles in the past ... Which is why I know about the bamboo handles!

I like the fireplace brackets cause they are clean and have the holes pre drilled, and come with hardware.
