I like them a lot. I use both sides depending on how hot the coals are. Been using them a couple years. When I use the flat side they carmelize the meat evenly.

When I first saw them I thought they were a gimmick as well. I'd always been a Cast Iron grate user for those sear marks. But the CI grates here in the Pacific Northwet are a PITA to maintain and the Grill Grates are on my grill year round.

My Genesis has 4 and I sometimes flip 2 over and use them flat top and 2 for searing.
