I live in the Bay Area in California and have been looking to buy a red Genesis 1000 preferably already in good shape. I used to have one in the early 90s and miss it! Any idea of perhaps collectors who want to sell one? Or other sources? Thanks!

I'm closer to sac but diligence on Craigslist is your best bet I think.

There is a second hand shop in Sacramento that always has Weber gas sets of all varieties they go through them and make them fully functional but not restored. They run about 100-150 each. You can find them on Craigslist also

Heyjude

Craigslist or Offer up have lots of grills.
You will most likely need to refurb one if you want it nice.
It will be a labor of love..So they say.. It can be a lot of work.
Being in CA, you should have no problem finding one that is rustless and Free!

Craigslist, LetGo, OfferUp, Facebook Marketplace.
Here in the Phoenix area, first generation Weber gassers pop up almost daily. The Silver/Gold series grills are even more common and are terrific grills too. I don't think that any of them came with red lids, though.

Remember to search for "webber" also. Sometimes a gem will be mislabeled.

For Craigslist I use the search tool that @Troy put together. http://weberkettleclub.com/finding-weber-grills-on-craigslist

Good luck!
