Insight for ham cooktime needed
« on: April 11, 2017, 07:38:01 AM »
I know, I know..BBQ doesn't care about time. With experience, though, we know at certain temps a specific cut of meat will have a time frame it will cook within.

I have only done double smoked ham a couple times and don't recall how long it took.

I plan to buy about a 15-20 lb ham or two smaller hams if necessary. In each case, what can i expect time wise if cooking around 275?

We're doing an early lunch (1 pm) after church and can get them on the smoker anytime before 7:30 am.

If it is a city ham, and of a typical size, it will take about 2 1/2 hours at 250-275 to heat them up. You don't cook them, they are pre-cooked. Safe to just unwrap and eat. You heat them up and apply a glaze if you like.

A country ham? Maybe ask someone from Virginia, they are supposed to be popular there.

Pretty well, I started it a little too early and held in a cooler for about an hour.
